Wow - I was watching this very negative review of the game, shared the URL with my friend and he realized it has been PULLED!

The URL was this:

And the review was both positive and very negative about the bugs, but was professionally done, fully labelled and not some kid knock-off.

Soooo.. did someone at Bethesda make a call to GameSpot? One has to wonder how a negative review of a game gets pulled like that. Most likely Bethesda had nothing to do with it, but likely a higher-up at GameSpot didn't like it and pulled it - but still - a rare happening.

Maybe another reviewer got fired?

This is similar to EA saying "Though we were standing by our word to call the enemy in MoH the Taliban, we have instead chosen to call them OpFor after the ruckus this has caused."

If a portal site cannot post negative reviews when a game deserves it, to me, it loses HUGE amounts of credit and respect.

NV is a buggy game. This is the reality of it; hiding bad reviews won't save it. The Dev's only saving grace is to have STELLAR post-release patching support.

Take Ubisoft for example. Once those guys put out a game for PC, it NEVER gets patched. And when it does, it addresses the most MINOR of issues. Ubisoft has HORRID post-release support. If Beth/Obsidian want to do things right, do NOT be like Ubisoft.

If Bethesda really is behind this then I can't see it being legal, that is complete and utter [censored].

Bethesda also contacted http://kotaku.com/5668552/fallout-new-vegas-has-bug-issues?skyline=true&s=i when they made their news post about the bugs. I'm guessing they're trying to keep the big mentions of bugs down until the first proper patch comes along. It would be pretty bad if the game was labelled as buggy by big gaming sites now, especially if most of the large issues are solved in a patch that was released shortly after.


Once a review is posted it's unlikely to get updated, in which case New Vegas might get a lower rating because of its bugs, even if most of these bugs are fixed two weeks later.

There may not be a conspiracy... Perhaps the Editor didn't feel it was up to standards or something. Sometimes Occum's razor is the way.

Looks to me that they're having problems with their site in general. I went to the reviews tab at the top and got no results. Now I can't even get the page to load.

I thought the guy that reviewed it was the editor... lol?

Well, I havent read the article. However if you pull an article, you generally stop promoting it, and given that the 404 page has a link and logo of new vegas in their "Top stories" area, and I can't currently load their homepage, I'm not willing to jump on the "Bethesda is run by Richard Nixon" bandwagon.

(That said, if the conspiracy is true, I'm very disappointed).

They contacted Kotaku because Kotaku contacted them first. Kotaku asked a question. Bethesda answered the question.

No, I'm a Bethesda-Fan and love the games they produce (and no I'm not trying to Get In Good in the hopes of working for them, I'm just love the company). So when a really negative post gets made about a game I'm already Heavy invested into, it gets my attention. When it suddenly goes away, it Really gets my attention. When Mike and I were trying the link, the rest of the reviews were still there - so whatever is happening to their site, its consuming them slowly..

If the review comes back, I wont be any happier about it. Just found it curious.

There is a paralell claim that some sites are coming under similar pressure from the Bethesda Marketing department with regard to their reviews (threatening to pull ads), but it just seems to be speculation and rumour - noones willing to give hard facts and should be taken with a grain of salt.

The stories that Bethesda has ALLEGEDLY pulled several negative reviews are all over the web (including the Wiki) since yesterday. However, the whole Gamespot site is down for me and I really doubt it that this is because of the Fallout: New Vegas review.

Puhlease, folks. We should know that only Rockstar games have their good reviews pulled and replaced with perfect ones! (I'm looking at you, GTA4.)

maybe they realized whoever was reviewing it should actually update their video drivers and not buy games of steam and then *gasp* the game works fine. If there are any negatives to review it should be that steam svcks at delivering a digital download without slaughtering the code with their silly compression methods.

seriously what do you think is going to happen when a huge intricate amount of code that has been laid out a specific way get's chopped up and re-arranged to make it proprietary to your steam client. if the digital download was actually just a copy of the game it would work fine but the way steam has to get their grubby little mitts all over the thing so that the file structure is done their way and requires their client to run it would work fine.

so how about blaming the company that's really at fault for the problems some of you are having rather than the company that made an amazing game.

and the video works fine. Review is intact. Also, I watched the same review earlier today linked from a thread here, and it is unchanged.

Seems like the site is getting fixed up. I still can't read the Super Meat Boy review either

I have now loaded the Gamespot F:NV Review page, and watched the video. Given the plentatude of negative bug comments, going as far as to list a specific view, I'm not inclined to believe theres any censoring going on here.

I think he exaggerated.

First, so far I ran into none of those issues -- no one. Of course that doesn't mean the game is flawless, one had to be blind in order not to view the amount of complaints.

And last, in my opinion it's a HUGE mistake making a review based on something like bugs and glitches, bound to be ironed out by future patches.
