Well it is my personal GOTY, followed by Dark Souls, and I honestly was not anticpating Skyrim to appeal more to me even though I am an ES fan since Daggerfall. My third place is a tie between Dead Island and Deus Ex

I've only played F:NV, Crysis 2 (not as good as 1 but not bad), Empire TW (couldn't get into it) and Oblivion. For me it's better than Oblivion, Skyrim has fixed the things I didn't like about it and the world is much better. I'm not sure if I like it more that FNV, I loved that game but it's pretty close. The world is bigger, better and less buggy but the story lines aren't as deep, on the other hand FNV isn't truly open world in that it tells stories and ends.

New Vegas had better writing and far far better companions, but in just about every other area (IMO) Bethesda/Skyrim beats it by a mile.

Between FO and TES, I think that I prefer Fallout a bit more. There's just something about a post nuclear wasteland that appeals to me more than an arrow in the knee. :hehe:

BTW: I'm not overly concerned with GOTY awards anymore, they tend to be a bit overrated.

The only GOTY award that means anything.

Didn't Gamespot give the game a 9/10, huh they must've really liked it if they gave that low of a rating and still awarded it GOTY.

Agree with the comment on New Vegas about it not being truly open world, it's still a good game but not truly an open world game due to the linearness of certain sections, it opens up later on but not until then. Thankfully Skyrim isn't as buggy as that game.

Cool. I have a lot of time for Gamespot. They've gone back to basics recently, as demonstrated by the low key presentation.

The point they made about Skyrim being a game that you want to talk about with others just as much as you want to play the game is just so true.

Why does every good game have to be a 10/10? I remember back in the days when games done very well getting a 9, never mind a 10. On a scale of 1-10, a 9 isn't shabby, far from it. In fact, no game really should be a 10 unless it offers something truly unique and has been executed to near perfection, something most games, including Skyrim, don't offer.

For the above reasons, that's why reviews are now worthless. Unless a good game gets a 10, then there's people out there that think it may well have just got a six. 6 is mediocre, not bad, whilst 9 is excellent and is nothing to be sniffed at.
