Gaming Alternatives

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:36 pm

Hey guys, what are some good gaming alternatives? I've beaten Fallout New Vegas, like MAJOR. I've done literally everything you could possibly do in the DLC. I loved it, it was fun, over 100 hours of gameplay so I downloaded Fallout 3 to keep me busy. I'd already played Fallout 3 but it's fun to play again. I've done multiple play throughs in FNV so replay isn't an alternative. FO3 is fun but I've played it before, right now I'm working on beating it so I can do the DLCs.

I'm thinking of uninstalling FNV and getting another game. I want something creepy but not so creepy that I can't play! x3 So, no Silent Hill. I am going to keep FO3 and beat everything in it like in FNV but that's not for a while now. Once I do I would be looking for some gaming alternatives to that.

So what are your favorite gaming alternatives? Games you play instead of other games. I might give Skyrim a shot but I'm really new to the TES series so it may be a bit late for me. I was thinking Bioshock too, I had to before but uninstalled after some complications and the game being a bit slow in the fun department. :P

From what I've seen Dead Space definitely has a different play style. :P The Fallout games have somewhat babied me. x3 I'm used to a little compass always pointing me in the right direction, health and weapons on tap, being able to stop and look around, be absolutely sure that an area is safe once explored. But Dead Space is a press forward kind of game. You run around blind unless you use the map, health and weapons are limited, you can not stop to look around and you definitely can't run around thinking you're safe in a room.

At least, that's what a few videos are teaching me. :P Looks like fun, I just might get it! :D

Give bioshock another crack, it's got awesome atmosphere. Or even wait for Infinite to come out. If you're into the apocalyptic setting, borderlands is a LOT of fun online with 4 other people. RAGE is also good corridor shooting fun as well.

I loved the setting for Bioshock, I just might get it again. I am definitely going to get Infinite when it comes out, that's for sure!

You can activate a compass via one of the buttons during gameplay and it will send a light along the floor in the direction of your objective. You health is visible by the blue light on Isaac's spine, changing weapon can be done by shortcuts on the D-pad of an Xbox, I think med packs can be used like that too (Never tried). So you could still have all the quick go to thinkgs like in Fallout, just not with the world freezing pipboy, Dead Space has its own holographic "Pip-Boy" but this doesn't freeze gameplay which IMO keeps the game scary and on edge since you can be attack while changing your Inventory.

Granted it is kind of linear but there are defiently points where you can. Stop. Look. Scavenge. RUN!! Really though once you have killed the enemies in certain sections you should be able to just wander around, place do have time limits/undying enemies so staying still isn't an option for long, part of the horror aspect I'd say. Ammo and health are limited IF you play on harder difficulties, playing on easy gives you an abundance of items and there is always the shops to buy gear from.
Don't be fooled into thinking that if you run into a room the enemy will stay on the other side of the door though. They are smart.

Should try BioShock 2 if you haven't already, I loved these games so much and the original is the reason I got an Xbox in the first place, Rusted copper tin box with barnicles

Skyrim is excellent. If you liked Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, you'll like Skyrim. No prior TES experience really needed, but it's nice all the same. No contest saying it's probably the best TES to date.

This. It's a great game, chilling to explore, and worth at least two or three complete playthroughs (once normal, and then "revamped" with mods.)

Honestly try Penumbra. It's quite fun and a bit creepy if you turn the brightness to the correct setting so you can't see anything and have to be forced to use the flashlight/glowsticks.

To people saying S.T.A.L.K.E.R., are Clear Sky/Pripyat also good? I immensely enjoyed SoC with the Oblivion Lost mod, and I want to know if they have similar mod(s) (or are just good games).

I didn't enjoy Clear Sky as much, but your mileage may vary. Call of Pripyat was better, with more to explore in general, but not quite as creepy as the original.

Damn right its over 100 hours, more like a few hundred hours minimum.

As for a creepy game, I've heard that Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the creepiest game ever.

I was actually strongly thinking about Amnesia! But I want a game that will last a bit. I hear it's only a few hours.

There's a mod called Narodnaya Solyanka, loosely translated as "The People's Soup," and which is a mega mod for SoC made by many Russians, translated by one, and constantly updated.
It's creates an entirely different game.

As for modding CoP and CS, there's not really any I know of other than the required Complete mods.
But CoP is great.

I hesitate to say it, but honestly... Minecraft. It's got a nuanced creepy feel with the soundtrack and sound effects, and your character is far from godly so stepping out at night, or into the Nether or Strongholds does carry great risks. And each game is freshly generated, so it's got nigh infinite replayability, especially once you get involved with any building projects or check out a few mods. Sure, it's a polarizing game, but could be a huge time sink if you're keen to try it.

Batman Arkham Asylum/City are really good games. If you like stealth games and or Batman try these games out.
