I'm looking for the same thing, no noise for people I live with, better surround sound and easier to set up, since i have a small stand for the monitor and a reach over table over a leather lazy boy chair for gaming, so the distance can be to big for most to reach.

yer, plus for the price you get the same surround sound for muuuuuuuuch less, I'm looking to spend maybe £50 on a nice pair as opposed to several hundred for one that'll never be turned up more than very quiet for the family

You can try http://www.trittonusa.com/index.php/products/gaming_audio_technology/ax-720/. A bit expensive, but I own a pair, and they work fantastic. However, I wouldn't suggest buying a headset under $100. I've owned Turtle Beach X11's and Tritton AX180's. I didn't abuse either pair of headphones, but they were both very cheaply made, and neither headset lasted for more than a year. The audio on the X11's randomly started cutting out before it stopped working entirely. One of the earcups on the 180's snapped off after around 6 months. It didn't accidentally drop them or step on them, the plastic was just cheap and it wore down.

I'm not to fussed about breaking, a good quality is nice, something a little better than skullcandy and wireless. I'm ever so slightly deaf so shovelling out loads on speakers to me seems a bit OTT

I've heard good things about Logitech, Steelseries, and Turtle beach headsets. You will want to research anything by Razor, Plantronics, and Creative Fatality, since quality seems to be variable across different models and makes. I would suggest reading Newegg user reviews, they tend to be very informative.

EDIT: I currently own some Plantronics, but while I love the over-the-ear style, the mic doesn't pick up sound well, and I'm not happy with the interference the cords seems to make with each other. The quality, to my ears, is very good - I'm not an audiophile, though. I'd probably look at a Steel Series set if I was to buy something new.

But, that is something to consider, the style. On the ear or over the ear cans? I like over-the-ear, the on-the-ear cans tend to hurt my ears after a while. But, over-the-ear cans do look big, so if you care more about aesthetics than ergonomics, then you might not like the big cans.

I had the Tritton AX720s that EffeminaT linked, and I can say they were pretty amazing. Clean audio all the time, the bass was pretty good, and the only drawback is they are a bit bulky/on the heavier side. Plus, they are a bit expensive, so you might try finding them on sale. They do work across all three platforms though, which is a plus that is worth the money spent. :goodjob:

I actually returned the above though, not because they were bad but because I got a free Alienware gaming headset, which also works pretty darn well.

I don't recommend a headset, get some good quality headphones instead. If you need a mic get a separate one, especially if you want high quality recording.

I have http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-981-000246-USB-Desktop-Microphone/dp/B002RL84OY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313450013&sr=8-1 and the quality is so much better than my old headset microphone.

I use a Turtle Beach PX21 and I love it. It works on 360, PS3, PC, and Mac. It's very sturdy and very comfortable, plus you can use to to chat with friends while playing the game sounds through the headset as well (there are two dials to control chat and game volume separately). It's $80, but it's totally worth it. It also comes with an incredibly generous amount of cable so you can sit far away from your TV (I know you said wireless, but this is almost as good).

I have a Creative Fatal1ty set, and I wouldn't recommend it. If you want full details check http://thegearcore.blogspot.com/2011/08/review-creative-fatal1ty-headset.html. Turtle Beaches are excellent, but Sennheisers are the way to go for sound quality. Sadly I don't know a single model by them that features a mic, but picking up a separate mic isn't expensive.

I agree with this 100%. Personally I use a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826159280. They sound amazing for games and movies, my only complaint about them is that the cord is a bit short. I would get a stand alone mic as those usually sound better for recording.

Is it really? I saw that for sale and I thought it was great cause I would still be able to buy a GOOD pair of headphones (instead of a headset that is) but I saw a user review where it said that the author then upgraded to a headset and the recording quality was better

That's blatantly untrue, as long as you're making a good choice of headphones and mic. For the price, separate mic and headphones will give you better quality of both than a headset. It's just more of a pain using them with consoles.

Sweet. I thought it didn't make much sense but since I'm not in dire need at the moment I thought I'd figure it out later on. And no problem about comfort, gonna use it for PC (so on my desk) :D Since how good music sounds is possibly the hardest test for headphones and most headsets don't focus on that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be too happy about the sound quality :P

I mean a pain in the sense that actually getting them hooked up and working (especially the mic) with consoles when they are designed to be used with 3.5mm jacks can be difficult. Not a pain as in uncomfortable.

But for PC-only, I'd get ATH M50s for closed, or AD700s for open. For a mic, do this for gaming:

And for real recording, get a real mic.

I got some G35s a few days a go and find them fairly decent. The 7.1 is an absolute crock but the reason I got them is because they have the big muffs so they fit over my ears nicely and they aren't too tight on my head.

Ah yes setting up peripherals in consoles can be quite annoying

I was thinking about the ATH M50s actually :P Well would you say that Logitech mic is good enough (using it mostly for Let's Plays)? It has a "smaller" frequency response than most 100 bucks headsets, which is why (along with the user review) I was wondering
