gave Dawnbreaker to vigilant of Stendarr- can I get it back? : V

I didn't realize that was what they wanted when they asked me to give them the daedric artifact I was carrying. I tried to pickpocket it off the vigilant I gave it to but it wasn't in their inventory.

Is there a way that I can retrieve it?

Reload a save from before you gave it to them?

If you are on the PC, you can get it back through the console.

i believe the code for Dawnbreaker is 0004e4ee

so, type:

player.additem 0004e4ee

Why would you give it up in the first place? I mean, for a paladin, that is one powerful weapon. Burns enemies and makes undead explode when killed? That is powerful/op.

yeah, I wouldn't have knowingly given it up. I was at the Stendarr spot and the vigilant demanded the daedric item. I didn't realize that was Dawnbreaker. Once I gave it up I couldn't get it back from that NPC. I didn't have a recent save from that point and didn't want to have to redo the Dawnguard quest start over again.
