Gender change wasteland clinic?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:13 am

Not trying to troll or anything, but presenting a legit suggestion. It's New Vegas, after all. Those of us with consoles can't change our character's genders during a gameplay without mods. And have other NPC's react accordingly after a change. Kinda like the face change in Rivet City in Fallout 3.

Or coming to think of it, clinics that add body modifications as well. Like gene enhancements and new limb and stuff.

I don't see anything wrong with it, considering everyone says if someone did it in Fo3 its easily possible in NV because the NV area is smarter I guess.

I think it would be too easy to abuse. Some NPCs have special options depending on gender and this would potentially allow you access to both.

Not if the gender change swapped gender specific perks

I recall in FO3 you could change your hair style and even facial features but that was it, neither gender or race was allowed to be changed besides using the console commands.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a quest line which relates to transgender debate. There could be a clinic which is pioneering "new" technology which can perform an irreversible gender change operation. Put a small town nearby with some people who are opposing it. Work in a character plot where there's an arranged marriage planned for the daughter of the mayor in the town, but she actually wants to run away and become a man to enjoy a better life because her perception is that women are treated poorly based on her upbringing. There could be various ways to tackle the quest sequence, including talking things out with everyone involved, and there could be various outcomes:

- Help her father destroy the clinic, and kill everyone involved as a message that such things are not wanted.
- Convince the clinic to relocate far away from the Mojave, for their own safety.
- Help the girl run away and encourage her to undergo the operation on impulse.
- Talk things through and realize that she does not really want a six change operation, but is simply uncomfortable with her place in the world.
-----> Help the girl escape from her family's control by joining the NCR as a recruit, or find employment with the Crimson Caravan.
-----> Trick the girl into following you on the guise of helping her run away, and selling her to the Legion or the Fiends as a slave.

If the player gets rid of the clinic in the first two examples, it will no longer be available for use. If the clinic is retained, if the player wishes, at any point a permanent gender reassignment operation can be done on the player character for a high amount of caps. The process can only be done once per character. Some major NPCs will react to this if you interacted with them before the change, and all party members who joined before the change will react to it the first time you talk to them after the change.

I think something like this would be a pretty good quest + feature implementation for a subject such as this, and would cover various angles of the subject without being preachy.

I'd really rather not. Fallout seems pretty grey in topics of sixuality, race, religion, etc. I can only see alot of bad things coming from a questline catering to anything of real life controversy. heck, people threw a fit about Tabitha until Obsidian confirmed Tabitha was indeed a girl Pre-dipping. :shakehead:

First of all, I just want to be able to change my face. I started with a character that I created late at night, and now I can't fix his ugly mug.

Why do you consider it to be "abuse"? What's wrong with legitimately accessing both options in one game if there was a gameplay option for it?

And say that said NPC's react differently to you after a six change. Like they like you more, or they think you're a freak, etc, depending on the NPC's personality design. If it's smartly implemented.

Well if your character went into a midlife crisis then sure.

I guess a six change would be ok.

Since you cant go out and get a sports car in the game. LOL

But what I would like to see is a full character customization.

I'm not for it, but if such a thing were implemented it should be irreversable.

I doubt we'll be able to switch genders, but I predict we will get the chance for plastic surgery in Old World Blues.
