General Tulius Voice

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:20 pm

I won't post any spoilers here. All I want to say is General Tulius' voice is completely unbelievable for the head of the Imperial Legion. I hate his voice, there just seems something off about it for a General. I've done both Civil War sides and his voice alone is why I always go Stormcloak, Ulfric is a much better character and his words actually hold power in speeches before battle. I mean, I swear Ulfric's voice has a Rally effect added to it, lol.

Thoughts/disagreements?

Edit: His voice is fitting for a general, but what I mean is that he has no emotion in his speeches, or parts where there should be at least some shred of emotion.

In certain parts of the game, his voice acting is good. In other parts, like:

Spoiler
When you recite the oath upon first joining the Legion. He sounds monotone and boring, like the oath is nothing at all.

Also:

Spoiler
The battle before taking Windhelm, when he gives the speech. Lamest speech voice I've ever heard.

Different people have different voices. You might not think it is the voice of a general ,but what is the voice of a general.

By the way his voice is also in mass affect 3.

What?

I prefer Micheal Hogan's voice over Vladmir Kutch's.

When Ulfric gives a speech, I feel no emotion in it. With Tuilius, I actually feel the weight of each word.

It's not exactly his voice, it's the voice acting. He sounds so dull when giving a speech that should be rallying the troops. How am I supposed to believe that we're fighting the good fight when your voice just sounds like "ugh let's get this over with." Also, when you're:
Spoiler
reciting your oath upon first joining the legion he sounds really really bored of it, as if he has to be somewhere else or something and the oath doesn't matter at all.

In case you want to hear that specific part to see what I'm talking about, here's a video:

Spoiler

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HqF8HDeRfw

The part where he goes "Long live the emperor. Long live the empire" It sounds like he doesn't even care about the emperor/empire himself, how are you su[pposed to care about them?

It starts about 20:30 into the video, don't watch it if you don't want spoilers.E

Edit: I think his voice fits the character very well if I was to match up a voice with that character's face. However, I think the actual voice acting on important parts of the civil war quest line is just executed poorly. He just doesn't sound convicing at all.

I'd say that's exactly how it should be.

Ulfric is a guy trying to seize power through force of arms. To rally people behind him, he needs to be charismatic. He needs to be able to sway the people and convince them to follow him.

Tullius is just an old soldier. Not sure if he earned his rank by his merits or his lineage, but I'm guessing it's the first one. He's not much of a diplomat and struggles on that front. He is a capable commander, though. And in the Legion, people follow his orders. He doesn't have to rely on his charisma.

His voice could have been perfect for the role but it has no emotion or anything at all really.

Hes the XO from battlestar galactica TV series. He has a good voice for somone in charge of military forces, but not so good for speeches.

Tullius sees the Stormcloaks as a couple of rebels, he really DOESN'T care much about the whole ordeal

I think that his voice is like that on purpose. I got the feeling that he really didn't like the whole speech thing, but felt the need to at least try. He also does this half-heartedly, if the dummied content is anything to go by. One of the cut lines of dialogue is that he actually sympathises with the Stormcloaks, but the duty is to the empire.

He sounds a little like John F. Kennedy from Black Ops and that was one of the few things I liked about the game so I like Tullius. Besides, he reminds me of this cool, calm, "I got this, don't worry" type general.

I love Ulfric's voice, but I don't have an issue with Tulius'. Really, the only one I can't stand is the voice of the female Imperial soldier that sends you to get decapitated. I follow the Stormcloak soldier through Helgen every time just so I can slaughter her.

Ulfric's big rally speech reminded me of Bobcat Goldthwait. I've sided with the empire ever since. I just can't follow Bobcat into battle.

Tullius does sound bored (and boring) at times, but why does Ulfric always sound drunk?
