Get serious

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:48 pm

This is more of a message to the devs than an actual attempt at discussion with other users. I say this now - I do not intend to discuss here anything with anyone - write what you want, just don't expect an answer.

Anyways - unfortunatly, since Fallout 2, this franchise is known by most for three things:

1) walking around a post-apocalyptic version of the USA, blasting things with energy weapons while wearing a Power Armor

2) pop-culture references and cheap sense of humor

I'm not going to go into explaining why do I think these are completly irrelevant in a Fallout game, since those who disagree won't care and those who agree already know why. Now from what I've seen in the previews of New Vegas, it is going to be a solid RPG with lots of things that made Fallout 1 and 2 so good. Unfortunatly, I have also noticed that the [snip] SENSE OF HUMOR SO HORRIBLY PRESENT IN FALLOUT 3 may also be back (a trans-sixual Super Mutant in a wig and heart-shaped glassed? Are you guys serious?), so I thought I will let the devs know how much I would like this NOT to be present. I do not doubt that you guys at Obsidian are capable of making a mature, yet funny game without having to put lame tricks like that super mutant [snip]. So please scrap teddy bear launchers, nuca-cola collectors, super mutant behemots spawning behind you for touching a teddy bear (what's with the teddy bears, anyway?), ridiculous overpowered weapons (that machinegun grenade launcher worries me, also) and aliens.

And lastly - super mutants used to be something more than retarded WH40k-like Orcs. Bring that back.

The forums are here for discussion, if you don't want to discuss this you're probably better off emailing Obsidian directly.

Also, please watch your language on the forums.

i agree, fallout 3's humour was less.... mature than in previous fallout games, it was kinda like look! im getting attacked for taking a teddy bear, look im getting attacked by fake super hero's, look at the retarded supermutants who cant remember what happened 3 mins ago...... before it was more dark comedy

Why should she be transsixual? And we already know that the mutants in New Vegas are as diverse in intelligence as those of the classic games.

Lets see, FONV: Tranny Mutant
FO2: Arm wrestle for the Ball Gag.

Biggest Difference: FONV is 3D in your face as opposed to tiny little sprites, and any dialog is written in FO2 vs Spoken in FONV.

Since this is apparently just a post to throw our two cents at the developers before someone comes along and locks it... I've got a few suggestions of my own.

1.) People who fail to realize that 'part' of the roleplaying is actually walking around in the environment shooting things while wearing armor... shouldn't concern you guys when you're busy making a title. The fact of the matter is, without combat, Fallout would be very very boring. If you have a machine-gun grenade launcher... they DO exist. More power to you.

2.) I agree that there MAY be too many teddy bears in Fallout 3. Perhaps stuffed cats... and other such cuddly bedside articles... could also be present.

3.) Humor. People are arguing about humor. Because of a picture in a magazine... you have people who find themselves enough of an authority in the field of humor to dictate the retarded nature of a Super Mutant in a dress (without considering that it isn't POSSIBLE to have a trans-sixual Super Mutant if they are almost entirely AsixUAL as a rule... and last I heard... they're supposed to be pretty close) running a radio station. Mind you, nobody questioned a thing when they had to go up against a polymorphic blob which had integrated itself into not only several different minds... but a Machine-gun chair and a nuclear bomb... or a dude with a branch growing out of his skull.

Don't get caught up in what people will argue about, you guys. Just make a great game, serve it up to us, and we'll lampoon you as needed to make sure any errors you made get fixed the next time around*. (*if there is one, of course.)

(In the time it took to write that, exactly ONE person wrote a post involving questionable sixual devices. I rest my case.)

Crashed wales, Monthy Pyton, Pinky&Brain and South Park references, exploding cows, blowing up the crapper in Modoc, dialogue with Renesco the Rocket man about Arroyo, talking plants and animals, ghosts, Sulik, a load of movie references I don't remember right now, whole New Reno and San Francisco.....do you know how much more stuff like this they intended to put in (for example - talking TORPEDOES)?

Yeah, I'm fairly positive I played Fallout 2.

Guys, comments like this - even when they follow or proceed something constructive, really don't help threads along.

In the half an hour since this thread opened it's attracted more than its fair share of problems. Since Wheatstone is also mostly interested in getting his point to the devs, and not of discussing the matter, I think its best to lock this now.
