Getting a BSOD when using VATS

Well I bought a copy of FO:NV last weekend.
Installed it & after Steam had finished updating it I started playing.

Did the tutorial bit where you shoot the lizard things, went into VATS & I got a BSOD. :brokencomputer:

I've googled it & found a few explanations.

15# Fallout New Vegas Freezes and Crashes Fix
Open up the fallout.ini file in

My Documents\My Games\Fallout New Vegas

Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

Change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

Note. If the game still crashes write this “iNumHWThreads=1″.

Done that.

My graphics card drivers are up to date (GTX260 only 3 weeks old) as is DirectX & Steam.

Still getting the error, got this code after logging back on from a BSOD.

BCCode : 1000000a BCP1 : 00000000 BCP2 : 000000FF BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 80544E71 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1

Please shed some light on what else it could be as it looks like a great game.

Thanks :smile:

Typical.

As soon as I had posted this I found the solution!

Adjusted DirectX sound settings & put iNumHWThreads=1 back to 2 & it runs fine :)
