Getting downed + killstealing

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:23 pm

So, here we have a game. First person with aim down sight and sprinting, but with larger amounts of health- what I picture is a cross between CoD and Halo health. But whenever you "die" you actually get downed, like last stand. This wouldn't be a problem if this were a slower paced game, like, Gears of War, but it looks very very fast. So, obviously, although killing isn't very important in this game, it would get annoying if lots of your kills were stolen. What I prepose is that the person who downs the foe gets the kill, not assist. After all, the person that gets the assist should be the one who puts the least amount of effort into killing them. So if your friend downs the guy and you kill him, assist for you. I think that makes a lot of sense.

Other than concerns with XP, kill-stealing is fairly insignificant considering that there aren't going to be leader boards or player stats. Its just a number that's going to go away once the game is done. Even XP isn't that big of a deal, because with the latest container city footage, it was noticed that (as a soldier) kills are worth 20 XP, but you still get 15 XP if someone else finishes the guy off.

I believe exp is calculated based on amount of damage, then multiplied by whatever factor based on your class, objective, and proximity to objective.

ex: a player might get 30 points for 60 units of damage to an enemy, plus one half for being a soldier, plus another half for being within 20m of the objective
So that's 30+(30x.5)+(30x.5)= 60 points

Where as an engineer wouldn't not get the extra half for being a soldier and would come away with only 45 points (assuming he was still close to the objective.

Don't quote me on this, this is just how I understand the exp scoring works.

Soldiers get MOAR points for killing?

I think so, I think this is to balance the fact that Engineers can get 150ish points for a tier 1 weapon buff, and a medic can get a similar amount for revives/health buffs.

I don't think it's weird. In most games, soldiers are viewed as the big damage dealers/takers. They have their shielding ability, are able to blow up stuff and they give out ammo.

Other classes have similar abilities and skills as well, however, soldiers receive extra encouragement for killing because that's what they're used for in the first place. It just balances out the xp deficit when comparing to other classes.

From the videos around there is absolutely no evidence that soldiers would get more XP per kill.

In http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-brink/705430 'Jolly' gets significantly more points for shooting enemies as a soldier than as a engineer or medic

I somewhat doubt that. My money is on there being more Operatives than anything else, at least at first. :spotted owl:

I hope not but sadly that might be the case. Could have the same problem with any class.

Actually, the poll to end all polls (link on horses compilation) shows that operative is the least anticipated class.

Yes, but I thought that he linked to a pretty old topic, not?

I think most people feel loyal to certain classes and aren't likely to change before actually playing the game.

While I like the operative due to my notions that it fits my playstyle, I will play other classes. Besides if you have 7 operatives on your side I don't think you are going to win.

You may not finish your objectives, but the enemy wont either :P
I can just imagine the enemy team randomly shooting each other out of paranoia after being backstabbed half a dozen times.

Well that is true on defense not offense. Trust me I love driving my enemies to ragekill their team,

I think that, when the game comes out, we need to put together an 8 man team with 5 operatives and see how it goes, this is starting to seem epic.
