Getting to level 100 in a magic skill reduces the cost by 33

THATS [censored]!! (and no, not that what i am saying is false , but that it's an incredibly small amount and doesnt realy make to much of a difference)

Realy.. the only thing that matters in character development is perks and enchantments... That's not realy The elder scrolls though.. is it?

yes its pretty low. as is the combat regen.

I use a mod that increases it so that I don't have to completely rely on one type of enchant and/or enchanting.

Yup almost across the board skills are mostly static without perks. 30-40% swings in most cases. I consider it to be bad game design since it pretty much turns a host of skills into pointless grinds if you level them but don;t have the perks to spare. If they wanted the perks to deliver the lions share of the the power you should not have gained a perk by level, but by certain points in the skill like every 15 skill points or something. As long as you had a good number more perks available in a skill than you would gain you would still have choices and customization.

I have been underwhelmed by magic as well.

It is not very magical anymore, because it is treated like unlockable abilities.

I remember how it was in Morrowind where everything was so organic that your own spells and enchantments were unique and rewarding.

Skyrim wraps them in plastic and sells every spell by the dozen. It feels like a manufacturing plant now.

I play pure mages and I think it's fine. I prefer spellmaking, yes, but I see Skyrim as a very different mechanic using different types of synergy and requiring different approaches than the earlier TES games. Oh, and I've been playing on Master, too, just in case anyone wonders.

Want a cookie?

The majority of all magic users are hugely disappointed in the lackluster magic system we got in Skyrim. You're in the minority here. Most decent mages want to be able to have more than 2 or 3 useful spells for ever 10 levels they gain.

The magic system could use some work, yeah, but I prefer it to the Oblivion magic system where all the destruction spells are just a ball of fire/ice/lightning

Thats what you end up doing in Skyrim :( , unless you use mods.

Only these balls always do the same damage and cost more(which the thread is about), forcing a certain type of enchant/craft.

Spell Making really could work great in Skyrim, i just don't want to see the "Pay gold to the magic god to make a new spell!" system we had before. Like, go find a dragon bone and 25 dragon flowers and you can make a high power flame spell, y'know? Find 30 and it's a bit more powerful, throw in some glow dust and it becomes a bit more efficient, but don't use too much or it will become an ice spell!

If we had something like that, it would be really sweet.

Too bad that's all destruction consists of, because the other spells don't level with you and are useless within ten levels.

That's exactly the same in Skyrim lol. I suppose at least the balls of fire are slightly different sizes this time. It's like nobody at current-day Bethesda has ever played a game with a decent Magic system.

I'm not convinced they play games at all. At least not on the PC, because otherwise how can you explain the UI?
