Getting married... yay or nay?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:15 pm

Is there a tangible advantage to getting married? Or am I better off flying around single and solo?

Thanks all!

Cost: visit to Riften. 200 gold if you don't have Amulet of Mara already. A person who may be annoying.

Benefit: 100 gold a day. A general merchant with 1000 gold. 1 home cooked meal (25% magicka, health, and stamina regen for 5 minutes) per day. Lover's Comfort +15% learning with sleep, stackable with guardian stone benefit.

Get married as soon as possible. There is no downside.

I've only recently got married so I could have 50/50 on the 360.

Marriage in Skyrim doesn't hurt anything...except making a couPle followers nonessential...so why not?

No marriage ever, it's a worthless gimmick only meant as an attempt at bringing in more cash for Bethesda.

I am gay married, but the gold hardly matters when you've got tens of thousands of liquid gold. I just like having someone to come home to, even if Skyrim's marriage system turns him into a wallflower with no life of his own.

Just remember, you can only do it once. If you get tired of your spouse and get a divorce (by giving them an axe to the head- "til death do you part" is not a joke), don't expect to be able to get another one.

Just wait for my "traditional gender roles" mod. Includes the option of being married away by your father ;)

I used this list, myself: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marriage#Male_NPCs

Eh, I generally don't even bother with it. I find it to be incredibly shallow and poorly implemented. 100g a day might sound like a lot, but it'd take you 50 days to get enough to be the cheapest house and money isn't exactly hard to come by in Skyrim. I also find that whatever personality the character might have had before you married them, tends to disappear.

Also, most of the options are not exactly eye-candy

Like the Dragon Armor Perk, The DB questline and...something else...I done it once to see what it was like.

Unfortunately in RL I done it 3 times.

That applies to the entire game.

So what?

Just like Fable, it's kind of useless, and exists only for its own sake.

In my opinion, the biggest benefit to having a "Spouse" is just to add a little more life to your house.
