Getting the latest patch

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 3:43 am

Ok, I'm totally stumped. How in the bloody hell do I download this? I can't find any link on this site to download the latest patch. I can find plenty of pages giving me INFO on the latest patch but absolutly nothing on where I go to download it. (You'd think it would be under the "download" link, right? Nope, just a bunch of worthless desktop art.....) I've read that you download it through steam but I've clicked on nearly every link in there and nothing has an option to either download or search for the latest patch. Heck, I can't even figure out how to find out what patch my game is currently running!!! Are the patches downloaded and installed in the background completely without my knowledge?

Please someone help me cause I just wasted an hour of my life feeling like a moron for not being able to figure this out. It SHOULD be a very straightforward thing to do for a game, right?

It probably already downloaded it, go find TESV.exe right click and look at it's version if it says 1.4.21.0.4 then you have the latest.

I searched my computer for TESV.exe and it found no such file. I'm running windows 7 btw.

Anyone know why there is isn't a button on the main menu that says "update" or something like that which EVERY OTHER COMPUTER GAME IN EXISTANCE HAS?!?!?!?!?!

Or at the very least have the current version in small print in the corner of the load screen. Ya know, have it say "1.4.21.0.4" up in the right hand corner when you start the game. Yeesh......

PS: The above rant is directed at bethesda, NOT the people here willing to help me. :) Thanks to anyone offering help!

No TESV.exe, which means you have no Skyrim installed?

Go to this path on your computer and which TESV.exe should be inside that skyrim folder.

(For 64-bit systems)
C:\Program Files (x86)\STEAM\steamapps\common\skyrim

(For 32-bit systems)
C:\Program Files\STEAM\steamapps\common\skyrim
(Basically where STEAM is installed to)

And no your rant shouldn't directed at Bethesda, it should be directed at VALVe who provides the game your playing and it's updates serviced for it. Most likely the game is already updated and yes there is a way to check the version in game, in Skyrim press ESC then select the System tab and the version number is displayed in the bottom left hand corner of the window.

Try right click, properties, local files and verify integrity of game cache on Skyrim in your steam library.

I actually have the same problem, even though I know where my TESV.exe lives.

Both the details-tab and the ingame-info say, that the game still has version 1.3.10.0 and Steam doesn't seem to be too willing to change that fact...

Edit:
I found someone on the Steam User Forums that had the solution to our problem!

Well, you could always try to https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335of the game files.

That might start the update.

After that, it patched to version 1.4.21.0

I ran into the same issue described in PSeuDo0189's post. [Windows 7 - 64 bit]
Procake_Man's suggestion worked for me.

i.e. went to:

right click

The verification process flagged one file, downloaded and updated.

Thanks Procake_Man
