Getting Too Much Into Role

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:57 am

I rescued Nazeem from some bandits and literally two seconds after I dropped him off safely in Whiterun I get that line.
"I don't suppose you get to the clou--" I JUST CHOPPED YOUR [censored] HEAD OFF!!!
Last I saw his head was rolling towards Warmaidens.
It was very satisfying. lol

My favorite character is the Khajiit, but I always play as a good, clean Khajiit to prove to the NPCs I'm not the average moon sugar-eating, skooma junkie they assume. Of course, it doesn't work, but I like that element in Skyrim because it reminds you of the tragic nature of prejudice and racism that is so prevalent IRL. No matter your actions, there are some who will always judge you by your natural appearance.

I play a Dunmer and I get Schieght all the time with "watch yourself elf," not to mention the Windhelm whiners about how schmutzy the elves are...Honestly it never gets to me because I simply consider the source...

Spoiler
I take comfort in knowing that I'm already admired as a living legend by the elder heroes in Sovngarde, not to mention that I'm a peer to Talos himself!....Plus, I'm well known and respected as "Bone crusher" in the ranks of the storm cloaks...

My next play-through will be that of a Redguard, and as a citizen of Hammerfell, they already handed the dominion their backsides WITHOUT the help of the empire, so roleplaying as a StormCloak will make much more sense...I'd play as a Nord, but hell, everyone plays as a Nord at some point, I love going left-field on this one..

Last I checked, Khajiit don't typically get offended by "cat" any more than Altmer get offended by "elf." It's not an insult, it's just what they are. You killed a man for no reason.

I think my character has become racist herself I find myself automatically killing Thalmor and getting an irresistable urge to kill all high elves by extension, I also wish i had stolen a key to the thalmor embassy if there is one just so I could return and show them a thing or two ( and yet my char is imperial supporting ) so yea the game sometimes does cause a little overkill in the role department but its all fun and no RL people get hurt....

I agree. I think the only person worth killing is that scumbag in Windhelm who harasses the Dunmer. I found great satisfaction in beating the piss out of him.

I know this is a game a game bug, but im playing a red guard female warrior, and the stupid guards keep calling me mister or sir, honestly in reality there would be alot of towns with alot less guards, so far i would have massacred about half the population because they cant recognise that im female, from an rpg perspective, which the game sort of is, as a character and especially one thats constantly harrased by the guards, then like HurstLlama, id be taking my anger out on them as well. I waste my time saving their stupid towns and homesteads, retreiving items they keep losing in dungeons i have no idea how they get into to lose the things, risk my life only to get greif, i think a large quantity of payback is called for.

Now call the Mane, a Clan Mother, a Two Moons Dance student, or Master, or other Khajiit noble, or aristocat, a "Cat", and prepare to witness your own debowlment. But your not, and in a land where a grand majority of Khajiits aren't even tolerated within the gated cites.

I havn't played a Nord and probably never will. I tend to stick to the elven races. Nords are only good for bashing and breaking :P. I like the magical and the sneak thief types so Altmer for my mages and Dunmer for my magical assassins :D I've never really liked playing a warrior, maybe because i, myself, am not very strong and know i never will be, plus i like the range attacks and sneak attacks. That probably shows either cowardice in my character or, as i prefer to think of it, being smart. Why get in close and risk injury when you can snipe from afar and take them out with minimal risk. As for getting too in character i havn't really to that extent at least. I have felt like giving some of these rascist bastards a kick in the nads or two and a thump over the head just for being idiots but i dont really do the vengeful murder scene.

My Breton Rogue, Riden, is a devout follower of Nocturnal but also a person who believes in freedom. He supports the Stormcloak Rebellion but doesn't know whether or not to act upon it and join. So right now, he just works with the Thieves Guild and is planning to kill Aerin to send a message to Mjoll not to screw with the Thieves Guild.

Thats all you did? Kill one guard? Everytime I am alone with a couple of guards, I kill'em. Sometimes I just tell my companions to kill them, so I can steal as much as I can. When I'm done, I hide in the corner.

My main reason for initially picking a Dunmer is the fact that they make outstanding spell-swords/Battle mages, and also I dislike mainly playing a human in any RPG that I've played. The reason why I don't go full-blown mage is because I hate having to rely on my mana/ep/MP, etc exclusively to carry on the fight through a multi-leveled dungeon...But yeah, in oblivion I got a rush by jumping in the fray or here in Skyrim, going toe-to-toe with a creature the size of a house is too much fun rather than simply sniping it from the sky. However, there's definitely something to be said about the joys of outwitting someone/thing much stronger than you, and clearing a room full of them with a wave of your hand, as it were!

Playing as a Dunmer, I don't like the inflection some Nords place on the word "Elf." Sometimes it causes the ebony swords to flurry about or someone gets fus ro dah'd off of something.

Eh, I know what you mean. I play as an Imperial who sided with the Stormcloaks, and even though I valiantly champion their cause and all but put Ulfric on the throne, they end most of their comments towards me with a sneering, "... Imperial." I've yet to kill any of them for their insolence, but it gets on my nerves.

Getting more into your character makes the game more enjoyable and interesting. When you truly roleplay you're like an actor. In games it's interesting to test different things/roles that you don't do in real life.

Just don't mix games and real life and you're fine.

Very much agree with the above. I love playing my Khajiit, thief, assassin, opportunist murderer. In real life I have never killed anyone.................yet!
