Goats and Deers falling from the sky

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:55 pm

it's not the first time i've seen it i swear..sometimes i notice deers or goats falling from the mountains.
when im walking around collecting flowers and other ingridients on my travels i notice a random goat or deer here and there rolling over a steep hill or mountain close by..they end up dying as soon as they reach the ground.
i've even investigated this strange phenomenom around the area where they could have felt from but no signs of any wild beast that could potentially have pushed them down
what is this all about then?

Simple answer is sometimes cells don't render just quite right. We have seen instances in the past where entire cities did not get rendered and all the way down to slaughterfish spawning on land. Good news is, the next time the cell renders, it is OK. Note, this is why saving as soon as you enter a cell can lead to issues down the road, not the missing things, but the cell needs a bit of time to render and settle down.

These animals are designated to be rendered in the cell when it loads. Since the game can put them just about anywhere in the cell at render, which could be above a place that is above the slope or the ground, and that is why they fall to the ground. It is rare, but don't worry about it when it happens.

If you need an in-game reason for it, just say a dragon from the next valley over threw it at you.

What is this were to happen with an NPC? Would they die but be okay once the cell had rendered again?

NPC? If it falls far enough, then it will die. Nice that 99.9% of the NPCs are in cells where this can't happen (the ceiling/roof is too low for instance). But I have seen NPCs spawn a bit above the ground, then drop in the cities.

Ouch thankfully it is rare. I like the wandering mistral guy as a distraction on my travels and worry about him sometimes. Now he has this to contend with as well! :ahhh:

giants love passive animals such as deers and goats
u usually see a giant walking around with a painted cow
i saw that one just last night i said hi to him just running pass by and he didnt even do a thing.

but i get it, the world doesnt render bla bla bla goats and deers are suppose to spawn here and there but they spawn on wrong places and such
i would go for a dragon lifted one of those animals and dispose of off them in the mid air
sounds like a much more conclusive explenation.

About the funniest thing I have seen on 2 occasions is a dead horse zooming past me and landing far away.

I swear I have seen mammoth dropping from the skies.

I SAW THAT YESTERDAY
it was a glitchy mammoth he was standing next to a giant
the camp where i saw that is that one that has a strange purple tree in a lake with 2 nirnroots on it
i was far from them but i saw that mammoth take like a 40 feet fall but he did not ragdolled or even got himself hurt when he felt he just basically glitched through the air

I usually see things take off and fly away.

Although, I suppose, Adrienne Avenici once decided to shake up her routine and get to work via dropping gently from the heavens, before coolly doing business with me. 0.o

Or the goat just stepped on a lose rock on the mountain and fell? :)

lol, in a recent playthrough I was near Whiterun when it started raining Mammoths. I love it when you are riding along and suddenly off in the distance you can see some random object like a shovel, divinely ascending into the sky. I remember when this came out a lot of people where on here saying, "It works fine". I spend half my time playing, surfing the web to find work around solutions to problems in the game. I was always under the impression that a company was obligated to resolve problems with their products, apparently that doesn't apply to game developers. Luckily TES has an awesome community, otherwise the games would suffer horribly.

This sounds like a sign of the End Times. If dogs start falling from the sky, run. :teehee:

I've had dragons fall from the sky a few times when entering the courtyard of the College of Winterhold from an interior cell. One of them turned out to be alive - I was running up to it to absorb its soul when it started attacking. Scared the crap out of me.

Also had a skeletal dragon land on its back on a roof in Morthal. When it finally stopped moving, it settled into a position that made it look like it was using the roof as a lounge chair to get a suntan.

Hmm this kinda reminds me of that quest in TES4 where burning dead dogs fall out the sky.
