Gomorra Neon lights

Post » Sun Jun 26, 2011 3:37 pm

Hi, I'm currently working on some private projects now and I need some neon signs to be made. I know how to make them with alpha maps but they don't really work as nicely as I want them to be. So I was wondering how did they make the neon lights around the Gomorra Casino? I opened them in nifskope and I had no idea what I was looking at. I know the basics of modeling and making static meshes but I have no idea how to make nifs like the ones on the Gomorra casino. It seems to me that they work somehow as particles but I'm not sure. I was wondering if anyone could help me out in this department because I would really like to know?

Probably cranked the emissive mult up real high. It's a value in the NiMaterialProperty.

I tried looking up some information about it but it basically makes the texture "glow" or at least it fakes glow? Cos then how do you define the glow color? The gomorra lights seem to be yellow/orange ish however the textures are all white. Also the colors in the material property are white?

The coloration seems to be handled by vertex colors. And the emissive mult is still involved, it's cranked up to 25x. No wonder it's so bright...

In any case, you don't need vertex colors to make them superbright, just the emissive mults. I believe the glow you see around the gomorrah lights is actually HDR bloom.
