:: Good Luck idSoftware ::

Hello,

It appears that idSoftware is falling in line with the rest of the game development world. I am very sorry to see that Rage will be Steam only. My relationship has been that idSoftware was one of the companies I enjoyed doing business with the most, but I will not install defective, restrictive DRM like Steam or Securom on my machine. I understand that the times are changing and I wish idSoftware the absolute best of luck in business, but you've lost a customer.

Game developers have all jumped on the bandwagon of DRM in lieu of putting truly effective R&D into real options to protect the companies' software [that do not infringe on the end-users license agreement (I'm actually fairly certain there is no such thing as a license agreement anymore)]. I am sorry to see this trend but I am in my late 20's and have a family of my own starting, so I sympathize with the need to pay the bills even if that means not always doing things the right way.

I will not pirate the game, circumvent the DRM or play the game modified in anyway. I wont buy it or play it. idSoftware was the holdout for me, the one company I thought wouldn't follow the herd.

I am simply waiting for the game industry to come back to its senses and stop restricting the paying customer. If that never happens again, I will accept that and be unfortunately willing to remove gaming from my life entirely.

Please note that this is not a plea or a soap box, I speak no word to be heard. This is for me. I needed a way to psychologically break the ties and end my relationship with [great] game developers such as the wonderful people at idSoftware.

Regards,

A long time customer.

For me there is nothing wrong with using Steam. What's more, to be more in favor of users. You want to rage on PC then? Games for windows live? GLWL is the worst thing for PC gamers. He always has problems, is slow, you have to go looking online the solution to a problem that appears.

If you really trusted in id software, like me, would not be saying this. I'm a fan of id long time.
And they have much reason to use steam.
It's better for them, and they really deserve it. Rage were developed 7 years and I guess will have spent at least $ 40 million to make the game.

If you will not rage just to Steam. I feel sorry for you. It is a good way to make friends, communicate better, safer way to share and play.

And tell me how you want it on pc rage. You want to use?

Your loss, dude. If it deters the pirates then great. The last thing I want is good games dev studios struggling to profit.

I also wonder whether the people making the biggest fuss about this are the pirates themselves...

Rage is not steam only, because I don't have steam and I bought the game from gamestop on discs.

Dude, nothing deters the pirates. 99% of the games get pirated. Particularly the famous titles are never left out.

Dude, Steam is just like another software installed on your system. It does nothing to disturb your routine work. It is user-friendly and mature now. It automatically updates your games for you.

Yes, a drawback is that you may have to download some titles to play them. However, high speed internet connections are becoming affordable so this is not much of an issue in current times. For example, I downloaded almost 17 GB of games in span of just two days.

Give it a try.

Otherwise, your loss.

It is. The retail copies (pc) you buy in stores will require activation through Steam.
