Good Mage robes

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 12:29 pm

So started playthrough as a pure Mage and wondering how and where I can get some good Mage robes, like where the very best are located. This would be much appreciated. And yeah and completely ignored destruction last playthrough so any tips as well to be the best Mage ever?

Cheers

work on enchantment.... with all relevant perks, u can custom enchant gear(chest, head, finger, neck.... fortify 2 schools on each) so that 2 schools of magic magicka costs' are reduced to zero.... otherwise, the archmage's robes, -15% cost for all spells and +150% magicka regen rate would be your best bet, but to get those u must become archmage of the college of winterhold.

I started with the locked cage in the first dungeon. After that I find them all the time on enemy mages. Seems everytime I go to sell loot I have 15+ robes.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Archmage%27s_Robes from completing the Mage Guild quest line are the best you can find in game. An even better option is to get your Enchanting Skill to 100, sink 8 perk points in Enchanting (5/5 Enchanter, Insightful Enchanter, Corpus Enchanter, Extra Effect) and enchant your own robes with Fortify Destruction (-25%) and Fortify Conjuration or Illusion (-25%).

Destruction for combat, Alteration for defense, Conjuration or Illusion for crowd control, and Enchanting for gear. Just level those four skills purposefully/ equally, and you'll do fine.

Yeah I started off with the robe in the cage and I really know nothing about magic so you guys are saying I should make the journey to CoW and become a archmage? Any other tips?

Cheers

Apart from the Archmages Robes, I've only found decent robes being sold by mage trainers or as a rare chest item.

With enchanting combined with the novice through master perks you can have 4 schools cost zero magika cast. This means plus magika items become meaningless. I am only doing health at each level and enchanting for resists and health. One note: If your magika is completely drained you cannot cast even with zero magika cost. Keep + magika regen potions around in case you run into a group of lightning casting mages.

My Breton Mage is Alteration, Destruction and Conjuration with enchanting and alchemy.

My gear looks like this:
Ring: Fortify Alteration, Fortify Destruction
Circlet: Fortify Alteration, Fortify Destruction
Gloves: Fortify Carry Weight, Fortify Archery*
Necklace: Resist Magic, Fortify Conjuration
Chest: Fortify Conjuration & Fortify Magicka Regen, Fortify Health
Boots: Fortify Carry Weight, Resist Shock

*I use archery so i can drop a weakness to magic poison on a mob before casting. Great for tough mobs. An alternative is to have Fortify One Handed on gloves and boots.

For looks I have the black fine robes from the store in Solotude with Thalmor gloves and boots.

I was under the impression that the mana reduction perks and the Fortify enchants interact multiplicatively instead of additively. Thus, 2 max Fortify Destruction enchants (-50% mana cost) and the Destruction Mastery perk (-50% mana cost) would result in Destruction spells that cost 25% (.5 * .5 = .25) and not 0%.

Can you confirm that this is definitely not the case? Your description of the mechanics at work here conflicts with most of what I've read on the subject.

Yeah, you can steal some mythic dawn gear from his home in Dawnstar too.
But only the robes have an enchantment on them and it's just magicka regen I believe.
Also the Mythic Dawn robe is a hooded robe, so unless the player wants their character's face to disappear they'll have to use a circlet for their head slot.

Odd my magika bar does not move when I cast destruction spells. I'll test again tonight.
