Good Movies to watch

The title says it all. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to hear some esteemed recommendations from the BGS forums for what movies I should watch! Classics, or plain old fun ones would both be good!

Forrest Gump is a great movie, it would help if you would share what kind of genres you prefer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twuScTcDP_Q is my favourite film. Don't read plot summaries before you watch it. Don't read reviews. Just watch it. I cannot say any more without dooming it to hype backlash. Just trust me. I have two stars under my name. You can trust me.

Also, Inception, Fight Club, The Dark Knight, the LOTR trilogy, Network, Gladiator, Star Wars. I'll probably update tomorrow.

I do love me some Forrest Gump... And I'm fine with any genre really. I suppose I should have titled this thread "Favorite moves." I guess I'm looking for a box of chocolates when it comes to my movies selection. :P

That's all I can think of for now.

One really fun movie to watch is Hobo With a Shotgun. I had a bunch of friends over to watch it and it was one of the most fun things I have done in a while. Some other good films are Pulp Fiction (or any Tarantino film,) Forrest Gump, Super (not Super 8, just super,) Crank, Crank 2, Observe and Report, Super Troopers, and Snatch.

A really fun classic is Dr. Strangelove. I'd definitely recommend it if you like slightly dark comedy. It's humor is surprisingly appealing to modern tastes even after all these years.

I agree, Moon is great. I wouldn't call it "fun," but it's certainly suspenseful and always keeps you guessing. Unfortunately I have 5 stars under my name and as we all know, patriarchs aren't nearly as trustworthy as disciples, but I hope you take a chance and trust me anyway.

I hesitate to make any serious recommendations (aside from Troll 2 :P) because movie taste is so subjective and varied. However, one gem that I try to push on people that enjoy movies that mess with your head is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/ (do not read full plot synopsis). It was made on $7,000, and is in my top 10 favorite sci-fi films ever. I think it tops most big-budget sci-fi films (including Inception) by a wide margin, and it has no special effects at all. If you choose to watch it I'd suggest not reading anything about it ahead of time and watching it twice (it's fairly short). If you're not into very complex sci-fi plots then don't bother with it, but I think it's a one-of-a-kind film.

I just recently watched http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109506/ with Brandon Lee (R.I.P). I thought it was going to be one of those late night movies that I might fall asleep to, but I actually enjoyed the whole thing.

Edit-

The Boondock Saints yet

bleepin bleep bleeping bleep bleep BANG BANG bleepin bleep BANG I'm going to bleep your bleeping bleeps out! BANG BANG BANG

And Shepherds we shall be. For thee, my Lord, for thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand. Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee. And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti.

end movie....

if you can stand the language, then this movie is one of the best friggin movies around. If you don't like a lot of language in a movie... well... go watch Cinderella.

Also another one like that is Law Abiding Citizen. Love that movie.

Agreed. If you're in a zombie mood, Dod Sno (Norwegian but awesome) and Shaun of the Dead are both great.

I like Clint Eastwood, so I gave it a shot. To his credit. . .I'd recommend Grand Torino to my worst enemy. Not the greatest movie, but I still thought it was pretty good.

Alright, for some REALLY good movies:

- Zombie Land - A MUST SEE.
- The Other Guys - Best comedy ever.
- Source Code - A VERY touching movie.
- If Only - Jennifer Love Hewit, can't fail, and very touching too.
- A Walk to Remember - A drama-romance, VERY emotional and makes you wonder about lots of things.
- Pirates of the Caribbean - If you haven't seen yet.
- Titanic - If you haven't seen yet.
- Anger Management - One of the best and funniest movies.
- Saw 2 - But JUST Saw 2, the others are god aweful... in my taste at least.
- Mirrors - If you'd like to be TRULY scared.
- Groundhog Day - Very interesting film, and a very good one too.
- Last Samurai - YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE.
- Gladiator - A very good piece.
- I Am Legend - A great movie.
- I Robot - A great movie.
- Rush Hour 1,2,3 - Jacky Chan, what can I say?
- Shrek.
- Matrix - Only the first, the others are really bad...

AND that's all I can think for now.

Coraline - Good film, and completely stop-motion. That's right: a stop-motion movie released in 2009. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQC0QVXa33o.
Enchanted - Rips the Disney fairtale apart, plays with it, and puts it back together. Well done, and touching without being annoyingly soppy.
The Princess Bride - An awesome tale of adventure. Here's a quote:
Spoiler
Inigo: I admit it; you are better than I am.
Man in Black: Then why are you smiling?
Inigo: Because I know something you don't know.
Man in Black: And what is that?
Inigo: I am not left handed! [switches sword to his right hand & they continue fighting, with Inigo winning]
Man in Black: You're amazing!
Inigo: I ought to be, after twenty years.
Man in Black: There's something I ought to tell you.
Inigo: Tell me.
Man in Black: I'm not left-handed either. [switches his sword to his right hand]

Eastern Promised - Has Viggo Mortensen in it. That's a good enough sign on its own, isn't it? :P
Another vote for Tangled - one of the best Disney canon films.
Fighting - Worth a watch. Good fight scenes; they come across more as unchoreographed brawls than movie scenes... which is what they're supposed to be :P.
http://www.sintel.org/ - Only a short (15 minutes), and free (monetarily and conceptually), though it would still be worth watching even if it cost you money.
Lock, Stock, and Three Smoking Barrels - A classic British things-go-bad-then-worse movie. Plenty fun.

Anything with Henry Fonda in it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070215/. Henry Fonda is still decent enough in that, but the rest of the movie (plot, actors, dialogue, special effects) is terrible. Easily the worst western I've ever seen, and among my most hated movies period.

Better watch Once upon a time in the West, possibly my all-time favourite of any genre.

bleepin bleep bleeping bleep bleep BANG BANG bleepin bleep BANG I'm going to bleep your bleeping bleeps out!

The Boondock Saints is fantastic, but I never thought the language was that bad. You should try to watch the new Spartacus series Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena, some really great cursing in there :hehe:
