Good Oblivion fanfics?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 12:54 pm

Can someone recommend some good Oblivion fanfics? There are a lot of Fanfiction.net -- I think over a thousand -- but it's annoying to wade through them all to search for one that I'll like. I'm planning on reading The Infernal City soon, but don't really feel like buying it right now.

My requirements:

- Well-written
- Novel-length

My preferences:

- Dark Brotherhood is a main plotline
- Complete, or a WIP (not an abandoned fic that will never be finished)

I'm planning on writing one if I have enough time, but in the meantime, a well-written fanfic would be nice!

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't have a specific fanfic to recommend. But I suggest going back to Fanfiction.net, but this time using filters.

Oblivion-only stories, all ratings, 100000 words or more and completed (no cliffhangers please!). The results: 17 stories, with quite a few concerning the Dark Brotherhood. Checking the stories reviews might help you decide which one you wanna read too.

Hope that helped a little.

You will find some good ones over at http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?act=idx including http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4474, http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4435, http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3767, http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4423&st=0, http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4378, and my own humble http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4431, just to name a few of the gems there which are of longer length. Most of them are still in progress.

Old Habits is a more or less fan fic about the main quest of Oblivion, and Blood on the Moon that of the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind. Burning Today is completely new material set in Morrowind. Interregnum is about the rise of Talos Stormcrown (Tiber Septim), and is inspired by the lore, but obviously has a lot of new material built around those little bits that Bethesda put down. A few of them like mine and that about Buffy are envisioned by the authors more akin to an ongoing tv series, with a continuing story that takes us through the lives of the characters. Distinct arcs are begun and finished, but the overall tale goes on. Buffy and Teresa have a little bit of the main quest of Oblivion, but not seen in the usual way. Buffy gets off the main quest very quickly and goes off to do her own thing, but finds herself drawn back into some of it when she comes upon Kvatch. Teresa on the other hand follows it as far as Weynon Priory, where Jauffre tells her thank you for doing your part to serve the Empire, now run along while the professionals do the job of saving the world. Which is what happens, and she basically sees the events of the Oblivion Crisis unfold from the sidelines, as she follows her own destiny. Which has led her far beyond the events of the main quest now. In many ways she only really comes into her own after them. I just did a count and I have 250,221 words in the Teresa fiction so far. The Buffy fiction should be about the same.

I heartily second SubRosa's recommendations. I enjoy reading them all, and am the author of Buffy the Bowgirl. Buffy is presently at 100K words and will require well over twice that to finish her first book. Her first book takes place in Cyrodiil and ultimately includes freeing Kvatch. We have several subsequent books planned, some of them involve travel to other provinces.
