I am a good old Fallout fan who enjoyed on Fallout 1, 2, tactics, 3. I wonder how Fallout New Vegas slipped from my fingers. Anyway I have a few questions.

Is Fallout: New Vega an expansion on Fallout 3? or is it a new game?

If it is a new game, what new engine is it running on? and how is it compare with Fallout 3?

I am going to get the game for collection purpose no matter what answers I get but I want to set the priority, whether I am going to drive a few miles for the nearest store at my next chance, or should I wait until I have the time. After all I still has half a dozen facebook games, Starcraft 2, Elemental War of Magic, Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Original that I need to get to the very bottom.

It is a completely new game, the plot is in no way related to Fallout 3


It runs on the same engine as Fallout 3, and while the mechanics are basically the same, much of what was bad in fallout 3 has been streamlined or upgraded. Personally by far prefer the gameplay and plot of New Vegas to that of Fallout 3.

So a familiar interface with bugs fixed, gameplay streamlines with the players and an all new story? sound like it is time to shelf SC2.

Well, better than Fallout 3 in every aspect except for exploration. Fallout 3 wins over New Vegas in exploration.

The story is based of Fallout 1 & 2 but the gameplay is Fo3.

It is kinda a sequel to FO2. IMO, it is much better than FO3. Many things have been added in or are back from the originals that werent in FO3.

It does feel like an expansion. You can compare it to GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas.They were very much alike, but the "expansions" were improvements.

well, the interface was never the major selling point of the fallout series. however if first person shooting brings in bucks so that they can make more fallout, plus the VATS system, I can live with that.

I guess I am going to grab it in 42 hours where my next available spot in the calendar cross with the day time.

The gameplay is like FO3 but most of the problems that were in FO3 are fixed in NV. Tons of cool things that are available now like the reputation system which enables multiple storylines as well as the new hardcoe mode. i think its overall better than FO3. In some ways it feels like an expansion pack, but i think then that it is the most kickass expansion ever created. Time to stop messing around and pick up a copy of it.

Don't waste your money. The game is a bug ridden mess. You'd be better of 'getting to the bottom' of your other games. Obsidian, the so called custodians of the Fallout series, have proven once again they can't code for [censored].

If you're looking for a good Fallout game rather than a good Bethesda game, you're in luck, because I think the game is amazing when it comes to the aspects that make a Fallout game. If you are looking for a Bethesda game, which have a huge emphasis on exploration, then you might be disappointed, because it falls short when it comes to exploration. But, in every other aspect, NV blows Fallout 3 out of the water.



Heh, guess I'm lucky, because in my 170+ hours of playing, I've had less than five CTDs, most of which have been from mods or I causes them myself, no freezes, and no major bugs. Of what little minor bugs I did have, I fixed them quickly and without any trouble.

Actually, a lot of bugs have been presented in Oblivion and FO3, why ain't they fixed after all these years is beyond me.

And yeah, a lot of NV giltches are there because Obsidian is "Beth's Gamebryo noob"; like the bad collision box, Radscorpion sink to the ground etc.

Although I have encountered some bugs, I am thoroughly enjoying the game with it's consequences for what you do ingame, the fact we can't become a J.O.N.T.M.O.A. godling.
We also can't waltz into every area at any level and expect to survive.

I still like FO3 better. The best part of FO3, im my opinion, was the random encounters and exploring the wasteland, new vegas doesn't have. Exploring isnt as good, its easy to miss quests in new vegas unless you sit and read the wiki. i hope Bethesda makes another FO. new vegas is a good game but nowhere near what FO3 was. It feels empty, the buildings are small, the vaults are small, alot of the map markers are empty shacks or empty caves. The entire map feels rushed. This game could have been so much better, I was disappointed. This is just my opinion.

He already said he likes them all including FO:3. No need to go there.

@OP, I too liked them all (not so much BoS) and it is a very good game bringing the best of all of the games to a completely new game. There are some bugs that have caused some problems for many but they will be releasing a patch soon. I think it's on sell several places this weekend so I'd snap it up now before the price goes back up to normal come Monday.

Yeah, I mean if the bugs are what they were in FO3, then I should be fine, because I never went into any CTDs in FO3, um, well, not until I had beaten the game, played around with mods, shelved it, then reinstalled it again after a year when I decided to try out all the god / super weapons / sixy body mods.

Damn, I didn't have enough with SC2, yet. I guess she will end up like ME2 and DA:O. Oh, well, harddisks are in TBs these days for a reason I guess.

I guess I will spend some time with Wiki later today

New Vegas is better than FO3, except with the exploration, hope that someday they work together

I've played all the games (Except BoS, Heard it was crap..) and I have to say this is closer to the originals.
So if you liked the story in FO1/2, You'd (probably...) like the story in this.
