Here is how my experience went:
I pre-ordered 3 months in advance. I was told that Best Buy couldn't guarantee a CE, but the store I was pre-ordering from was in fact receiving a couple of CE's and if I got there earlier I could get one.
At 9:15 this morning I rushed over to Best Buy, to get there early in case of a line, since they open at 10:00am. They actually open at 9:00, didn't know they had changed the store hours. I get there and ask about the CE's, they never received any, only a couple of stores did. I find out that the store closer to my house actually has two left. I then ask if I can call ahead and ask them to set aside a copy. This is against their policy, I understand.
Let me explain something, I don't have internet at my home right now so I was bringing my comp over to a friend that lives next to a Best Buy. That's why I pre-ordered from the store farther from my home.
I make a mad dash over to that Best Buy. I run up to the customer service desk and ask for the CE. He looks over to a guy standing next to me and says, " He got the last one, sorry." This guy, holding the last CE proceeds to say, " Yeah man, I can't believe it. I woke up late and still managed to get a CE. I wish I had pre-ordered though, those coasters look sweet!"
I WAS LIVID. and still am.
This is why I will no longer pre-order from Best Buy, but only take my pre-ordering to Gamestop.
I agree that is how it happens. I wasnt really concerned if I got it or not. If someone was really wanting it I would have gladly handed my copy over if I hadnt paid yet. I did how ever checked the local stores online and it said all the bestbuy`s in the city had them in stock but when I got to my local one all they had was 4 stragety guides, 4 collector stragety guides, and 6 standard PC copies of New Vegas.
I do understand your pain though, I have had alot of stores burn me that way where they say one thing then you get there and their like nope. Ive had it happened at a junkyard when I needed a replacement brake line they said same year make model as mine come to find out it was about 20 years newer, not even the same make and a different model. Other store that did it to me was Academy they told me that they didnt have any 7.62x54R that some guy bought the last one go in the next time next week they said nope some guy with an AK bought them all up for his ak. Funny considering the AK uses the 7.62x39 round. I said screw it and went to my friendly local gun shop and picked up 40 rounds of 1986 surplus czech steel core armor piercing rounds for $15 compared to $17 for 20 rounds of the commerical stuff. Its just bad business to give your customers the run around like that.
