Gothic 3 Soundtrack-mod for Skyrim

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 7:30 pm

Hi!

My favorite game-music of all time is in Gothic 3. Kai Rosenkranz really did a tremendous work!

It would be really awesome to have a Gothic 3 Soundtrack-mod for Skyrim as the title suggest. I would do it myself if i could, but I'm quite new to modding..
So if someone could point me in the right direction, or even better, post a guide on how to do this I'd really put an effort on this.

I have the Gothic 3 OST on my computer in MP3-format.

Here is an example of some Gothic 3 music:

(I also posted this on thenexusforums, but maybe this site can help me even more.)
Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing that the music for Gothic is copyrighted and therefore could not be shared legally.

Yeah...this really isn't something you can distribute via modding.

If you have the music the best you can do is sticking it the music folders of the game.

Okay, thanks for replying!

Yeah, didn't think of that.

Find a way though for myself to do it.

You can close the thread.

What you could do is use this little program for converting mp3/wav files into xwm files that Skyrim uses:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3159

I've used it to convert my fave mp3s and it works. You'll have to figure the correct file paths to put them in though, and of course not distribute any of the music files, just keep them for your own use.

Yeah, i used a BSA extractor to see the correct filepath.

But a BIG THANK YOU for the converter. :D Was doing it with "CMD" before, very much easier with this!

Thanks!

Is that all there's to it? Is it possible to drop the converted music files in the music folders in the same way you could do that in FO3/Oblivion/Morrowind, where just putting it in the right folder would add it to the list of songs the game randomly picks from?

I got Icewind Dale on GOG.com with soundtrack and everything, I'd like to add some of those songs to the list...

Yes!

Unfortunately for me the Gothic 3 music files were in .gog format. So first i had to convert gog to wav, then wav to xwm. Then place them in the correct location.

And finally, yes, the game randomly picks it.

Problem for me though is that i really like the original songs in skyrim too. So i did a little speciality.
I took one of the original skyrim exploring-songs in to Sony Vegas, then added the Gothic 3-soundtrack i wanted at the end of the skyrim one. 2 songs in 1 file!

Works and sounds great in game :)

Shame Gothic 4 Arcadia disappointed so much. I loved the first two and liked the 3rd one more than I hated it... The music was definitely a highpoint.

Gothic 3's music is brilliant I'll certainly give you that.... Gothic/Risen are my favorite franchise's warts and all.

Having said that Skyrim's music is also very good.

You're saying you have to replace the skyrim music with the new music? No way to just add it to the list?

There is no way to add new music except for replacing the old right now, we'll have to wait for the CK.

Thanks for the idea with editing the existing music files and adding a new song at the end! I'll try that.

Offtopic: The music in Gothic 3 was nice, but that's it. I consider Gothic 3 to be the most awfull game of video gaming history.
Never played an more unfinished, buggy and unfair (Insta-kill fireballs from goblin shamans, player-[censored] boars, hitboxes which were much smaller than the model itself, meaning that you couldn't hit some monsters with your two handed weapons, even if you were touching them with your character...and thousand things more, including a ridiculously bad main quest). Players who complain about Skyrim should be forced to play Gothic 3.
It's disaster could only be surpassed by it's Add-On.

Gothic 1+2 were really great games, but all that came after should be locked away somewhere and better be forgotten for all eternity.

@ Ryu'Dar

Offtopic:

Yeah, sure it was buggy. I didn't play it though until a few months after its release using the latest patches, therefore i might have missed the big mess everybody was talking about.

Actually it is one of my favorite games of all time. The atmosphere is so freaking amazing, and the music just blends in so fantastic. Have many great memories from Gothic 3.
And now there is a "Community patch" available for Gothic 3 that remove a huge amount of bugs and makes it playable for the picky players. (If you have missed it)

I also bought Gothic 3: Forsaken gods (expansion). But haven't played it yet. Read that Forsaken Gods also is a mess, but just now now i found out that "Gothic 3 Forsaken gods enhanced edition" has been released. http://store.steampowered.com/app/65600
A remake of the gameplay and the graphics. Looking forward to try it out.

About the editing: And of course you can also put your music before the Skyrim-music. (If anyone thought otherwise.)

The atmosphere was pretty good when you ignored the main quest or the bugs. I couldn't do that...

The mainquest was pretty much like:

"Oh, hey nameless hero guy! Find Xardas!"
"Where is he?"
"No idea, find out yourself."

20-25 hours of bug-infested gameplay later. The only clue to find Xardas is, that he is somewhere in the north.

Xardas: "Oh, hi. You found me."
"Why did you become evil in the last game?"
Xardas: "Doesn't matter, here's your next quest...find the artefacts!"

More 20-30 Hours later:

Xardas: "Yay, you found them. Now you need to destroy them in order to make the world happy"
Decide on what to do with the artefacts in a neutral, good or evil way.

The End

After Gothic 1+2...this was a punch in my face. If some people here think I forgot some parts...no really, I didn't. That was the mainquest. It seems like it was added one month before release.
I don't want to bash you or anything for liking Gothic 3. Skyrim is my personal most fav. game of all times now and I know that a lot of people disagree with me.

I'm just saying that part 3 (and Arcania: Gothic 4 , which is also a mess) is nowhere comparable to Gothic 1+2.
Piranha Bytes tried to design an open World game like TES, but failed horribly. Though it's more the fault of their publisher Jowood, who forced them to release the game in an early pre-alpha-status.

I tried to play with the community patch once, but I couldn't force myself to keep playing. The game was totally spoiled for me already.
