GPU keeps screwing up on these forums?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:38 pm

So I just got my GTX 560 Ti the other day, I'm very impressed with it, actually, it exceeded my expectations. I honestly did not expect to be able to max the Witcher II at 1080p with it, but I did (ubersampling off). Anyway, one problem, every time I'm typing in this box on these forums (that includes Skyrim's forums, etc. Pretty much anything on the Beth forums), my display driver stops working for a second and then recovers. And it does this at least once per message. It only does it on these forums. Literally no where else.

Any idea what's going on?

I just disabled it. I'll see how it goes. It's weird, when I had my old GPU, it never did that. Neither does my laptop do this.

I had that problem. Rolling back to driver version 275.50 fixed it for me.

Firefox currently has issues with the new Adobe Flash [v11] update (I believe). I was getting random BSoD while browsing with Hardware Acceleration enabled.

It's a problem with firefox in general causing TDRs with the 280.x and 285.x driver line. Happens to people with and without flash and happens with and without hardware acceleration enabled.

It doesn't happen to people who go back to the 275.x line and doesn't happen prior to Firefox 5 (people reverting to Firefox 3.6.x are fine)

Two temporary workarounds exist if you want to stay with the latest firefox and 280.x or 285.x driver line for whatever reason (for me, for example, 275.x had issues and since I rarely use firefox, the firefox TDR is not an issue)

1. http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/what-is-data-execution-prevention-dep-and-how-to-disable-it-in-windows-vista/

2. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=211808. Your system will just freeze for a second or two instead of crashing to desktop or the display cutting out.

That thread for #2 also has some other suggestions you can try, but none universally work (other than disabling TDR, which I wouldn't recommend)
