IIRC JE Sawyer said on his Formspring that the Challenges are more something to do than 'Do x, win y'. 1 being pretty easy, 2 being difficult, and 3 being very demanding and specific. The unique weapons will all be at the merchants as well, I can expect them to be very costly though.

Challenges do not gift weapons. They work just like the ones in the base game.

The jump in difficulty from ** to *** is much larger than from * to **. Level 1/2 challenges are both pretty straightforward. It's the Level 3 challenges that can be eye-watering.

As long as it's not grinding, we're game.

I've restarted my character so often that I haven't even gotten though half of the vanilla challenges. I suppose once all of the packs have been loaded on 9/27 I can buckle down on a single character and try knocking all of the Vanilla, DLC and GRA challenges off my "to do" list... =p

Truth be told, I've completed most of the challenges during normal play through without even realising it. There're so many different grind challenges, I can just ignore them as they pop up in the background. Others like the super mutant killing challenge gets a bit harder since the only time I get to kill a lot of them is when assaulting Black Mountain.

True, there are some challenges that just come out of nowhere and you raise your eyebrow and scratch your head thinking, "there's a challenge for that?". O.o

Still there are a handful of challenges that are actually worth pursuing as there are bonus perks associated with them.

At the very least, my "final build" character will be going for all the perk-related challenges.
