Graphic Adaptor Problem.

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:55 am

Hey, when I downloaded Fallout New vegas it says my Graphic adapter is: Nvidia 7900GS which is totally wrong. My Computer's build is this

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5670 (not nvidia 7900GS)
CPU: AMD Phenom ll x4 965 Black edition 3.40Ghz 1024Mb
RAM: 4gigs of ram
64-bit Windows 7 Premium
1.5 Terabyte storage space..

I Know for 100% that I have a ATI Radeon HD 5670 Graphic adapter. But why is it saying 7900GS? Maybe i need a update for my Driver Any suggestions where?

The most obvious answer is that you have a pirated copy of the game.

Sounds to me like you have the older copy of d3d9.dll in your game folder.

Or he may have downloaded from Steam or Direct to Drive.

This is an issue that has been reported though, when using the DLL fix.

I wouldn't call it an issue. That is what the DLL fix does. It spoofs the game into thinking your card is a 7900, causing it to use older, more compatible render paths.

If you are using the dll fix then that is exactly whats supposed to happen, don't worry about it.

The thing about this is that no one has reported having trouble with the Mainline Gaming cards such as HD 3650s, HD 4650s, HD 4670s, HD 5670s (nor with the lower end of the 8n00 / 9n00 recycled generation -- it seems to start from the 8800 / 9800 pair and includes all of the GTX200 /GTX400 cards at all the various levels from borderline business 20s on upward). This OP should not have needed the D3d9.dll file copy.

I concour, the DLL fix is not needed for ATI cards, only for some Nvidia cards.

It might be best to reinstall the game to clear this dll file out.

Or, if you can set the graphics settings you want and the game runs fine, just ignore this and play on.

Its hard to believe someone could apply the dll fix and not know what it does.

Tell that to my 2 5870s. :P If I don't use it, I get 30-40's in Goodsprings. With it, I get 55-60+ with V-sync. (Mostly solid 60 but occasional drops to 55 when turning suddenly.)

FFS He put the d3d9.dll fix in his FO:NV folder... Obviously he didn't read too much about the "fix" before he did it, so now you BOTH look a little foolish for opening mouth before consulting brain.
