Graphical Glitch - 95 foot character !?!?!?

Help !

I played NV this morning for a while, got to my next destination (Vault 22) and quick-saved.
I reloaded this quick-save later in the day and my character has now grown to 95-feet tall !!

(That's ED-E in the background btw).

I can enter the vault (by crouching), but then I get a load of clipping issues.
I tried fast-travelling somewhere else but I was still the same height !

Given that my character is level 25 you can tell that I've played for some time without any problems; indeed it was fine before this morning's quick save.

Anyone else suffered this problem ?
Is there a console command I can use to 'shrink' my character ?

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; an Nvidia GTX460 card (260.99 drivers); and the game is fully patched (1.2.0.285).
I always use Steam in offline mode.
I have 2 mods installed - Darnified UI & Perk Every Level - but I've had these since I started and have had no problems up to now.

Help please ! I don't want to have start again !

At least as glitches go this one is pretty awesome - but admittedly less so if you can't fix it.

Well that is a strange one. The first thing I would do is try to validate your game cache through steam (if 1-2 files fail validation again after the first attempt don't worry because that is a known bug and a false positive).

1. Load Steam
2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
5. Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.

Have you been using any new mods recently or been trying to adjust settings with the console commands? I'm just asking because the other solution I know of does not get to the cause of the problem and involves using the console - which is generally a last resort since altering the game using the command console does have inherent risks of its own. That being said, create a seperate save before trying this (though this is is a relatively safe command compared to some others):

Open the console (hit "~")
type "player.setscale 1.0"
hit enter
close the console (hit "~" again)

If a mod is causing this problem you may have to use this command every time you start the game, depending on the behavior of the mod. If you encounter other creatures similarly gigantified you can use the console, click on the ginormous creature, and use "setscale 1.0" to try to correct it too.

EDIT: ah darn, beaten to it

You can also try to restore your backup quicksave. Look in C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves.
Simply move quicksave.fos out of the folder and rename quicksave.fos.bak by simply removing the ".bak" portion.
Autosave works the same way.

I tried verifying the integrity of the game files through Steam but that didn't help.
I then had a flash of inspiration and looked to see where my savegames were stored....
... suffice to say that promoting my backup saves to be the primary saves did the trick :goodjob:

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm now walking/running at my correct altitude again !

No idea. It was working, then it wasn't.

Perhaps the savegame got corrupted somehow, who knows ?

One of those things sent to to test us I suppose.

Yeah most corrupted save file bugs just give your CTDs - this is the first one I've seen that gives you an opportunity for funny screenshots. Should we be worried that the glitches seem to be developing a sense of humor?

It was kinda fun being taller than some buildings.....
....but it was a bit difficult trying to enter any of them.

There was a 1950's sc-fi flick called Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Basically, radiation made her grow, chaos ensues.....

Would make a cool mod.
