Great idea for the process of building your Stronghold

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:42 am

So after doing some jobs for the mills, mines, and other minority jobs this really great idea hit me. So alot of people have been wanting to build their own strongholds no? So what if in order to build your own stronghold you would have to hire industries to provide necessary resources for building your stronghold.

For starters, you would start off by getting a lumber industry to create a clearing for your stronghold and to provide necessary lumber resources to help reinforce your outer walls, to build wooden watchtowers, and wooden furniture. Next, you would have to establish the closest mine to the clearing of your stronghold and start looking for miners to mine stone for your strongholds outer walls and inner structures. After that, your stronghold will need militia and mercs so next quest tells you to go to the companions or thieves guild to hire mercenary's/thugs to help guard your stronghold. For militia, you would have to look for a ex-blacksmith and pay for a blacksmith workshop to create weapons for your townspeople and to sell weapons for your earliest convenience. Then, your stronghold will need to establish trade with other cities so you would have to pay for a trade shop and commute a worthy economy income for you and your workers at your stronghold. After that, its just the process of building up your mansion in the heart of your beloved stronghold with all the resources you acquired. Visit the trade shop for furnishes and then you have your stronghold!

You have a working mill, several worker houses, a stone mine, blacksmith, bodyguards, a trade shop, and most of all...your precious mansion!! Also you would have a decent population with plenty of action going on so hardly any room for boredom in your stronghold. I think this would be a most fabulous idea to implement in Skyrim for those who want a stronghold in the game. What do you guys think?

Adding any micro-management gameplay to TES in general would be a huge step forward IMO.

Agreed. Suggested similar notions myself before on other threads here. Great minds obviously think alike! :D You've got it all laid out in great detail. Glad to see that other people really want this too.

But rather than building a stronghold from scratch, it'd be cool to rebuild Helgen and become Jarl of it. Because the Dragonborn will deserve a massive reward for saving, oh, everyone.

It would be quite the feat.

i really want to build a fort/home
the coolest parts of morrowind to me were the great house forts and the raven rock colony
if they took that idea and expanded upon it, i think itd be amazing
maybe in the dlc after DG

I actually have a really good idea involving more micro-management and Empire/Stormcloaks but it's 6 AM and I'm on a phone. Lol

TES has become to quest based, we need more things to do that isn't quest.

Should make a new thread for it when you have more time.

Agreed. More roaming around and sweet, sweet discovery of non-quest quests, places, etc.

I agree that they need a stronghold/town dlc for us to work thru. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1379148-the-hero-of-canton-the-man-they-called-dovahkiin/page__p__20886991#entry20886991 was my post while back, some people had good ideas to add to it. I think the easiest way to do it would be to have a 'Rebuilding Helgen' DLC.

I agree with almost everything that has been said in here!

Definitely need more than just quests to keep us occupied.
Though a lot of people like to argue that games should be about action and only action. I love a variety, myself.

i think that in Dawnguard you should get the two basic fortresses and no matter what side you are on be able to build a new place for yourself.

I agree, I would love to be allowed to rebuild Helgen. I was hoping for a "Rebuild Kvatch" DLC for Oblivion but that never happened, only with mods it did.

i agree if by the time you basically finished making everythin and hiring everyone you stronghold becomes mostly self sufficient and you can leave it for extended amounts of time BUT you can come back and manage things and do things yourself whenever you want

also it be cool if you could get one or two of the factions to have outposts in you estate/stronghold/town like a companion drinking hall where they could go after a mission if they are in the area, a dark brotherhood sanctuary, college library or small campus, err idk about the theives guild since it would be stealing from your own town, dawnguard outpost, or vampire den

We threw around a lot of ideas in this thread as well.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1379622-we-should-get-strongholds-thread-2/page__p__20916391__hl__strongholds__fromsearch__1#entry20916391

The ideas go far beyond what we know of the "castles" in Dawnguard and would, in my view, add a whole new dimension and challenge to the game at higher levels.

I like this idea. It's involved. It's a characters investment rather than someone going "go do this and report back to me after every objective". This is something you do not because there's a reward, but because you feel you deserve a [censored]ing fortress.

I love this plan, I'm happy to be a part of it!

Some great ideas, Daniel.

In the thread Imentioned above, we discussed this starting off as "recognition" for your efforts by the Jarls of Skyrim or from whatever side you joined in the civil war.

You would be offered several locations to choose from to build your house/estate and be provided with the materials to do so.

I'd see your idea as tieing into "upgrading" your home/estate to a stronghold and, if you chose, a thriving community around it.

I'd suggest though for those who may not want the responsibilty of a town and associated buildings that there would also be a purchase option, e.g., you could buy the necessary amount of wood, stones, etc. and hire workers to build/upgrade your stronghold.

Or perhaps there could be related quests, e.g., wood mill owner needs your help with something and after you've completed this, they give you "x" amount of wood. For stone ... maybe you could clear out unpleasant characters who have occupied a quarry, lol, and receive the stone you need in return.

In my view, would make the higher level game very interesting and give players something to do with their gold and a reason to continue acquiring gold ... maybe "special" items needed for construction as well.

The same basic concept could also be applied to rebuilding Helgen and perhaps expanding smaller cities like Winterhold, Morthal and Dawnstar.
