Greatswords, battle axes or war hammers? : V

I started a new 2H Orc character and I can't decide on what weapon to use. I know the basics that war hammers have the most damage and greatswords are the fastest. So what do you think is best and why? Maybe some lore on what suits orcs better idk.. Thanks.

I never liked Great Swords. I'm a fan of Battle Axes, although I did use Volendrung very early on because it looked badass.

Volendrung, Wuuthrad, or Ebony Blade eh? I have a similar Orc, i started with Hammers but eventually got bored of that and switched to axes

Probably war hammers. Personally, I prefer great swords when I play a Two-Handed character but only because I'm supposed to be sophisticated as a fighter. Orcs are generally blunt and forceful in nature. War hammers are the strongest and most blunt. Fits an orc perfectly.

In morrowind, orcs had a bonus with Axes, so I always figured that their most preferred weapon would be an axe.

In Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k Orks always have an Axe or at least some piece of metal to chop with so...

Orcs in most game lore usually prefer Axes. Whenever I picture a Berserker I picture an Orc flailing bloodied axes relentlessly at their enemy. So I always use Axes on my Orsimer.

I just base it on a per character basis. Most of my characters use Greatswords. I admit I am pro Claymore.

Would you rather do 1 hit for 60 or two hits for 80?

Axes!!! I always prefered axes in 1H and 2H unless i was playing a trained soldier of some kind as a sword suits a soldier better. Although a you are going for a orc who are more agressive and almost 'barbarian' like i would say to choose axe or warhammer.Although like other ppl have said i think an axe would be best

All of the above. Its boring to use only one weapon. The killcams for greatsword are best imo.

This I could agree with.

If OP isn't looking for lore friendly necessarily, just go with what has the best stats for you.

I like the great swords for the speed and warhammers for the ignore armor perks and raw damage.
Can't say I'm much of a fan of axes, though I've used them on plenty of characters.

From a 'battle efficiency' point of view, it's probably best to go with the greatsword because of extra speed making up for it's slightly lower damage.

Right now I'm building up my 2 hand skill with a war hammer just because I like the idea of feeling the bones of my opponents snap, break, shatter and crunch under my titanic arcing swings.

However, if I start another character, he'll go two handed and with a battle axe. Just because.

If you are going for the realistic answer, battle axes make the most sense based upon your location in the world.

Skyrim is a land based off of the Nordic regions of Europe. The characters are also based off of Vikings / Picts.

Axes would have been the most common, popular and plentiful weapon around.

If you are wanting a practical answer, for damage output and ratio to swing speed, I would still stick with battle axes, as the damage and swing speed are typically balanced.

If you don't mind spoilers, check the wiki for artifact 2H weapons / upgraded 2H weapons to plan which one you want to try to make your favorite.

Personally I prefer hammers, and I do like the perks that allow them to ignore x% armor.

Axes or WArhammers both are cool in orcs swords just doesn′t work with orcs

I went with Hammer on my 2H Orc. I planned on only using Banded Iron Armor and a low end hammer that I upgrade with smithing. Joined the Companions and thought it would be nice to only use the Skyforge steel weapon given to you upon being officially welcomed into the Companions, but Eorlund doesn't have a hammer as an option. :stare:

Guess I will have to get working on the Skyforge and make my own.

I also like the % ignore armor perk as well. That and your racial power you can do some real damage.

Hmm.i prefer two handed swords for obvious reasons,but i don't have an orc character...however,if i would have one i think that axes and maces would be probably more suited.
