Green thumb perk question

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:14 am

Does the green thumb perk effect crimson nirnroot? I heard it doesn't effect normal nirnroot, but it does for Crimson and wanted confirmation.

Would make gathering a bunch of them much easier.

UESP wiki says no to nirnroot... and I honestly wouldn't want a perk that would effectively cut in half the Roots quest.

I don't ever mess with Alchemy.... but of all the issues I had in Blackreach, finding enough of the red ones was NOT one of them.

Really? I thought the combats were pretty minor, but the time spent on navigation & exploration to find all those roots was... a lot.

I did the root quest....but now I use the crimson nirnroot for regular alchemy and running all over a cave to pluck one at a time does actually get pretty annoying. And I'd say it wouldn't be unfair to have it effect crimson roots, given that you would need to put a lot of perks into alchemy and be pretty high up in the skill to do that. Wouldn't be the first or only time high skills resulted in a much faster/easier quest...

I can't SEE in there.... my eyes are going on 65 years old, and that place is just - impossible.... If I could figure out stuff in the CK I could fix it, but I'm not very good with that kind of thing.... html, css, php - THOSE I can do. CK.... not so much....

That's true, I see your point.

And are you saying you go back to Blackreach to get more crimson?
While doing the MQ I got a couple from the Lab and near the entrance to Blackreach. When I went back much later, I came out with 44 from the Roots quest and the ones I took earlier did not respawn.
Did you stop at 30 and then go back for more? I'm a little confused by this, assuming "a cave" refers to Blackreach:

"I did the root quest....but now I use the crimson nirnroot for regular alchemy and running all over a cave to pluck one at a time does actually get pretty annoying. "

I gathered 30 roots waaaaay long ago when I was sent down there during the MQ because I also wanted to explore blackreach. Now that I have alchemy maxed out, I go back there to gather the roots to make powerful potions. I know there's more roots then just inside the cave complex, but they're all still pretty spread out when you consider the mammoth size of the thing.

Just would have been nice to have gotten more bang for the travel time+limited amount of roots.

It's that dark in vanilla too? I was using the "No Tint" mod when I went into Blackreach and couldn't see a damn thing anywhere. I just assumed it was the mod making everything so dark. That place was practically pitch-black on my monitor. I was constantly walking into walls, posts, off bridges...I found it very annoying, to be honest. I couldn't wait to get out of the place.

So true.....I don't think I've been to Blackreach and not used the candelight spell. There's just some parts where not even the glowing mushrooms can make out the darkness.

I don't have any lighting mods at all. I suppose it's not dark for some people, but I don't see well in the "darker" range (for instance, I don't drive at night.... you don't WANT me to drive at night....) and places like Blackreach are pits of ink to me. The spells for light are all "bluish" which is nearly as bad (I really hate the falmer areas for that reason). Torches work okay - but since I normally use off-hand destruction spells, I spend a LOT of time micromanaging swaps. I've never managed to "clear" the entire place, so it's not really easy....

The nirnroots fortunately not only chime but glow. That helps me find them, that was the one thing I didn't have issues with. What I seriously want a mod for is to just light the damn place up like outdoor daytime....
