Greybeards or Blades?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 12:52 am

So I'm to the point in the main quest where it's time to pick whether I side with the Greybeards or The Blades. I'm leaning towards the GB's because the concept seems cooler to me and Paarthurnax seems pretty cool. I feel they're looking out for me more so than the Blades as well as it seems the Blades just want to slay all dragons which seems a bit extreme. I mean, is it right to kill all dangerous predators into extinction? So I was wondering which side some of you chose and why?

Greybeards, because I'd rather side with a Ancient Dragon that has helped defeat Alduin before, and is one of the wisest creatures alive then side with a couple of old people with a genocidal grudge against all Dovah.

GB's

Skyrim's Blades are unappealing to me and their logic is flawed

I personally go with Greybeards.
I love dragons in TES (they are almost exact how I imagine them to be), I think Graybeards are pretty cool too, and I dislike Blades (am sick and tired already of them being related to MQ in one way or another).

Yeah, it is kind of a spoiler. Spoilers don't really bother me so i wasn't really thinking that when I posted this. My bad. Should have put up a warning. I don't think it's a HUGE spoiler though. You pick a side. Big deal.

Yea I forgot about the spoiler section. Sooooo...either this will get taken down or smart people will stop reading at "So I'm at the part in the main quest where..." if it really means that much to them. Again though, I truly am sorry. I wasn't thinking.

First playthrough, Greybeards, because Parthurnaax was awesome. Second time, Blades, just to see what happened. Just a few quests.

Spoiler alert.

Spoiler
Apparently, that ancient dragon committed countless atrocities as Alduins right hand man(dragon), so much in fact, its exclusive knowledge survived for thousands of years. So its not exactly an innocent wise and peaceful dragon.

I still didn't killed him though, me and my character believes in redemption :)

I was perplexed with this myself (not wanting to choose), so through the wiki I found an answer which skirts around having to make an actual choice.
To do this:
Spoiler
You can use the console (PC only, sorry) and have the quest finished for killing Paarthurnax via command, with only a minor dialogue glitch with Arngeir (one of the dialogue options disappears), from what I've read. (I'd recommend saving before doing, of course).
setstage MQPaarthurnax stage 100
This should acknowledge that you've killed Paarthurnax with Esbern and Delphine, but not have the Greybeards hate you (and of course, Paarthurnax is not actually dead).

Greybeards. The Blades are only interested in using the Dragonborn for their own purposes.

I'm torn. Don't wanna kill PAR. But don't like the beards. If I side with beards, what happens to blades? They just won't talk to me?

yep they are done with you.

Personally i killed him he was Alduin Lt in the war admits he could never stop him. Created the greybeards to protect him while he hides on a mountain. He sits and meditates on words of power why? to become stronger with Alduin gone out of the picure i see him waiting 200 the years to get stronger. He knows more words of power then any other dragon. Do you think later he will use this power and become the next Alduin i do so i killed him with out a second thought.

I don't like either. Like, they're both alright, but neither are really appealing. If I had to choose, Greybeards

Both are slaves to principle.

But the Graybeards' strict adherence is less reckless and wanton... so, the Graybeards.
