Gripes about invisibility

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:24 pm

I think Invisibility is absolutely worthless for the most part, unless you have 100 sneak or something. I know it technically works, because I've actually snuck in front of people before without them seeing me, but the majority of the time, they know where you are. If anything, using Invisibility calls more attention to you. I've been a good distance from the enemy and casted spells -- they didn't hear them -- but, I cast invisibility and they hear that and come running for me. Doesn't matter where I hide or how I try to evade, they WILL find me everytime. I just stopped using it on my stealth character since, in my opinion, the spell simply doesn't work like it should.

Just my opinion but I want cham back no one is forcing someone to use it if you find it game breaking don't use the spell. It's a single player game.

But I've had probs with invis as well, it should be absolute atleast when it's active. Now if you want the player to make sound I can see how invis doesn't take care of that but if I haven't opened a door or picked something up or attack something they shouldn't be able to see me at all if you want them to swing wildly in the general area that's fine but they shouldn't just run right up to me like they figured out exactly where I was just from sound without looking around and taking some time first and even if they find me if I move far away they should loose me again. Invis is just that invis, tracking something you can't see isn't supposed to be easy.

I am so glad they got rid of chameleon.
I'm not. It was fun to use. After I completed almost everything, I would just get 100% chameleon and attack people and watch them go crazy.

Sorry, why are you glad they took this out? You can't accidently end up with 100% chameleon enchanted armour, and I doubt there was even a single person out there was actually dissapointed when they found out 100% chameleon would make them perma. invisable as they were just hoping for a constant effect of something simular to invisability...

Personally I got a 300 hours save, with most of gameplay on it coming from the 100% chameleon and the scroll dupe glitches... I found all sorts of things I could do with both of them, including reverse-pickpocketing all the gaurd and watching them be poisoned at meal times. Also it allowed me to keep going back to the mage guild and cause riots there, as they attack eachother as opposed to me when I'm invisable.

It provided fun for those looking for it, but people who are looking for challenges and taking the game seriously could just not bother with it. it wasn't even like you were gimping yourself, as you actually had to go out of your own way to make it.

I read in a alteration skill level book in the game that the difference between Illusion magic and Alteration magic is that Illusion magic is all fake, it doesn't actually change things in the world just what people feel/see. Alteration on the other hand does change real stuff in the world.

That's really the most important thing to remember when it comes to illusion spells. There seems to be a mistaken idea that an invisibility spell actually makes you invisible. It doesn't. It only diminishes others' perceptions of you. In essence, you're not casting it on yourself at all, you're casting it upon those AROUND you.

So, while it may be kind of a pain in the posterior that the spell "breaks" as soon as you take a swing at someone, it only makes logical sense. Since you're less making light pass through yourself, and more creating a "blind spot" in the range-of-vision of nearby NPC's, you'd better believe that the ILLUSION is broken as soon as you take a poke at one of them. I don't care HOW effective the spell is...if someone is standing directly in front of you and swinging a warhammer at your face, chances are, you are going to become aware of them and what they're up to.

The sad thing is, if you could mow down enemies with impunity all while they run around confused at what's happening, I just KNOW some chowderhead would pipe up about how "unrealistic" it is that NPC's simply wouldn't notice an aggressive broadsword swinging around in mid-air of its own volition. There's really no winning with some people.

There are too many people concerned about how the other guy or gal plays their game. Let people play their game; it does not affect you. If they want Chameleon, or to make their own spells, or any darn thing- let them play the game the way they want. That used to be a Bethesda specialty.

I don't use invisibility because it svcks. If invisibility doesn't actually make you invisible it shouldn't be called invisibility... It should be called "Potion/spell of making it a little harder for people to see you", maybe something shorter, but at least something honest to what the spell does and not just using a word and ignoring it's unarguable definition.

I am honestly beging to think that invisblity is bugged, my sneak is maxxed I always wear my Nightingale armor when sneaking so I have muffle, I have tried spells, potions and Nocturnels blessing all seem to do nothing. I should be able to slip right past anyone but the see me like I just walked up a slapped them in the face.

i used invis potions when i did the goldenglow quest for the thieves guild and was cleaning out the safe.......

i would take an invis potion, then run thru the house in heavy armor and no muffle enchantments and 45 sneak with no skill points in it.......

never got noticed once or even a mention by the mercs that they even suspected i was there.......

so while it may be bugged on your game, it has worked fine for me in that case.......

there was a time where i took an invis potion and a mage npc saw me, but i figuired some npcs like mages and maybe some undead can see thru invisibility.......

chameleon was defintaly overpowered in the sense you could enchant a couple items with chameleon and run around the whole world without ever being detected.......

Invisibility's biggest problem is the removal of the timer HUD from Oblivion. I don't want to go to the active effects page to count down how long it lasts before I take another potion.

And why were you worried, exactly?

I don't see why so many people care. If you think it ruins the game, you don't have to do it. It's not a feature you're having to restrict yourself from using, if you want chameleon you can get 20/40/60/80% without ruining it for yourself. People who feel like having a save to mess around on can do so, and those that are taking the game seriously on every one of thier saves are in no way forced to do this, and are not missing out on any part of the game by not doing it.

Because I play a vampire in stage 4 so everything and everyone and their little sister attacks me on sight, there's why.
I don't use potions though, I'm an illusionist. And when I play on master difficulty with 40 HP it kind of helps to be invisible while wondering about through the wilderness. Just in case a dragon shows up, or god forbid a mudcrab.
So your complaining because you intentionally gimp yourself.
