Guards can't fall.

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:31 am

I don't know what the deal is, but the guards refuse to fall to the ground as if their AI has been messed up. Doesn't matter if I kill them or "Fus Ro Dah" them, they stand where they are.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Let's say I hit a guard until he dies. Then eventually he's supposed to fall to the ground, right? Well, for me, they freeze up and I can't budge them in any way. Like if their AI freezes upon death. This only seems to happen with the guards - any guard.

Do you think maybe you are paralyzing them before killing them (if you're weapon uses paralyze)? Or maybe it's something else...

Do you play on PC? Maybe a mod you installed is causing a conflict or something..

I'd say no. Have had these mods for quite some time now and nothing has happened until yesterday and no, they're not being paralyzed. They just freeze up, for whatever reason.

Unless a mod can do this after a long time, though.

Does sound like the havok has messed up, I know you can place havok enabled objects in the game floating and they will remain that way until disturbed, have you tried using grab to move them?

Since no mods that are currently available are made with the editor for this game, and instead made with an editor for another game, or some third party editor, it is unknown just what mods are doing to the game.

So, to test this, load an earlier save, then try a game with no mods on your current character, then try a new game with no mods selected to see what happens.

guards not doing what they're expected to do is exactly what this thread is about.

Well, more like what their "physics" are supposed to make them do. That is, fall when they're dead and not freeze up half-way.

I've had that happen to several characters. Usually a reload and trying again works for me. Have you tried loading a save before this problem started appearing? If that's possible of course, because I can imagine you're not attacking guards constantly.

Not had this problem, so far. I have this pedantic little habit. Whenever I get a new Housecarl I have to go and kill a Guard from that Hold, so that I can give my Housecarl a Shield from their Hold... :)

So far I've always succeded at this.

Hi, i had this problem in Markarth, when i killed some of the guards they just freeze in a locked position standing up, not allowing you to search them or anything. I had this happen to me twice and both times i restarted the game and the problem solved its self after that.

Have you by any chance been playing around with the toggle collision variable (TCL) in the console? If so, that will cause the issue you are describing. Make sure collision is set to '1'.

I had the same problem, never used any console commands as of yet, only 1 mod which is Skyrim UI.
