Guards sleeping in full uniforms including helmets...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:05 pm

I went into the barracks the other day and saw the guards sleeping in full armor with hemlets on...

In Oblivion they got in their "jammies" when going to sleep.

I don't understand why new games (sequels of the latter for example like this) lose such simple yet important touches to realism.

Flame on.

A couple halloween's ago I had an outfit that required a helmet. It was a little uncomfortable so I added some padding. I passed out with it on multiple times with ease.

Pillows don't seem that great in Skyrim anyways.

Have to be ready to dash into the fray against a dragon at a moment's notice, I suppose.

Well, realistically clothes were hard to make in those days, armor even more so. At best, the amount of different outfits you have went only into the single digits. They could just be doing shifts; you nap for two hours then take my post for another two hours, and so on. Then there's the whole "sleep with a dagger beneath the pillow-case mentality".

Or it could just be faulty AI.

If it's intentional, that's a great cultural detail
if it's not, it's sloppy work

Well long ago in the land just south of Skyrim guards went to sleep in normal clothes after shift. Why that went out the window in the furure is leaning towards the faulty AI department. ;)

Mods will fix it in an overhaul.

I think this, They just don't take off their helmets because.. game mechanics.

They're Nords, not girly men. A real man sleeps with an axe at hip and an ale at his bedside.

Pajama's are for pansies.

The loss of detail in some areas gave us more detail in other areas. I don't hang out in the barracks and I'm fine with them sleeping in their helms. They don't have faces anyway. :)

It's odd that sleeping npcs appear stiff and frozen, like they aren't even breathing.

because in skyrim the guard's faces are almost all exactly the same if im not wrong, having a whole bunch of clones sleeping in identical beds would freak.

Don't hang around the Stormcloak camps for too long, because they also eat through their masks.

The "mechanics" are the same as Oblivion just "improved."

I can understand sleeping with your weapon by your side and even keeping some chest armor on but a helmet. That just doesn't happen. Dragons flying around and fire shooting out of your hands happen, sleeping with a helmet on...no.

You might sleep in armor too if you took an arrow in the knee.

Perhaps if this game had greaves...
