Guide for making a house?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:05 pm

Hi all!

I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find a guide or info on making my own player house. I really have no modding experience but would like to make my own place now that the creation kit is out. Any help would be appreciated very much!

Well Im sure you have seen the Tutorial Videos 1-3??? I too wanted to create a house similiar to one that is already out. Kinda used the idea but am tweaking it to make it mine. However I am really running into a lot of problems myself as well. Very first time ever using a kit to create a mod.

I followed what Tutorial 2 video said. Find a cell; copy it; rename it; highlight everything inside and delete it. Now you start with a blank scratch. Then on left pane where find what you want and start.

LOL I was thinking and hoping it would be similiar to playing SIMS where you create your own houses and such; well kinda. I mean thankfully there isnt a dollar value of what you spend but you do take current objects, duplicate and rotate it a lot. Then theres the placement of objects.

Right now I kinda have a base layout. I have a floor, i have a few objects but my doors arent looking good. I am about to enter which is fine, complete wall but when I exit same way I came in the door way isnt looking good; graphic glitch. My Stairs are horrible LOL, I can go down no problem I just cant get up them without having to run on the same step 2 seconds longer :(

Hopefully you have a layout on paper, might help a long ways :)

Im making a dungeon - I can safely say that it is a painful process.

Having to make sure u get the right type of wall with the right type of door etc

I would imagine making a house interior would be easier.

I would advise you to dive in at the deep end, and try the Dungeon Tutorial that is on Wiki.
It actually makes house building seem more simple.

Would give you a feel for what you would need to do house wise.

An even easier way to get familiar with houses, general CK controls, etc., is to copy an existing house cell's items completely over to your new cell. Rearrange and delete items as you see fit--but you will need to be familiar with the door stuff from the wiki's tutorials.

A Tutorial/Guide purely for making a house would be fantastic.

This is outdated, I guess, and for another game - but a lot of the information still stands. http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/tuts/dsong/first_room
I recommend starting at "The Cell" instead of the very first page.
