Now that the box is here... The first thing I thought to myself was, "Should I leave it wrapped?" ~LOL (seriously)

I started to pick at the shrink wrap, then pondered leaving it wrapped. FO:NV will still be on the shelf next year. If I buy GOTY and play from there, I get to retain an unopened CE.
(I have FO3 standard and FO3 GOTY)... Anyone else planning on not opening their CE's?

I've bought two copies of FNV, one CE and one standard. So... Maybe?

You can just grab à digital dowload version and leave your CE wrapped I guess. Whatever rocks your vault.

Can get stuff shrink-wrapped, or even laminated, or gold plated yourself. Open it, play it, take care of it, and shrink wrap it in a year's time and call it unopened, unplayed. Who will know? :disguise:

Believe it or not, that hadn't crossed my mind; I'll have to think on that.

Still... the reason I got it was to have the book in hand and be able to read it. Something else to think on.

I think I might just go into town, run some errands and figure this out later tonight.

When I buy something - like a game... it's because I want to play it. I guess I just don't understand having pristine unopened copies of anything around. Just collects dust, takes up space. :shrug:

(but at least I opened them and played the games ~Its a hold over habit of a once avid comic book collector... We would buy several shrink wrapped copies, and never open them at all.)

Sure an unopened CE might be valuable in the future, but i would not have patience to wait for it to become valuable, nor the money to buy a game for shelf and another to play.

I know a guy who's friend's dad bought [his friend] two of every Star Wars toy that he wanted... He boxed ? of them in the attic, and paid his kids college with the sale of them
(all mint and on card ~in blister).

FO:NV won't be like this (I don't think); Still... Its the classic dilemma, "To have your cake and eat it too".
I think for a while at least, I will just let this cake lie.

This is why Christmas presents always look better unopened. All wrapped up they are perfect, and you will always wonder what is inside. Wrapped up, they offer a world of possibilities and can never disappoint. By keeping it wrapped you are free to consider all of the joyous things that could be waiting for you inside. After all, if you open it, you may not like what is inside...

...but seriously, open the box and play NV. You will love it.

I know collector's generally buy two editions. One to keep in mint condition and one to play. You decide.

I understand the feeling of wanting to leave a game in the neat wrapping, I kinda hate tearing it all off too. But, is the money and hassle of selling it in the future really worth that much to you? I'd say the enjoyment of the CE's contents/the game is worth more than money could buy, and certainly multiple times more than you'll sell it for years from now. If you plan to keep it that's even worse, because it becomes nothing more than a space occupier and whatever it's value is irrelevant since it'll never be sold or used.

I say forget about the money. Open it up, relax, have fun with it, and forget about the pieces of thinly sliced trees that are keeping you from doing that. It's just a game, not a rare, ancient antique or historical artifact.

Beats me, I wouldn't do that either.

There really is no point in trying to save a copy. In a few years, all the console game makers will be changing their formats, (I think they decided 10 years when XBox360 and PS3 originally came out) and most likely the games we now own won't be playable. So unless you plan on keeping the console or computer you currently have with the game, it'll be pretty much worthless.

Don't open it! Ebay it and PROFIT.

I usually install the game and make an image, or nowadays I just keep it on steam and then pack the CD/case away.

You'd be surprised how they can stay in such good condition and even retain that smell when you never touch them again.

But I've got the PC version ~I have retail games dating back from 1987 that I can play right now on the same system I'd be playing FO:NV on. :shrug:
I'd expect no problems playing it on a future PC.

As it is, I'm still playing Serious Sam 2nd and Vampire Bloodlines. I am really leaning towards just waiting out the first or second patch before installing; maybe finish a few of my FO3 mods in the interim.
