hanging loads are driving me nuts!

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 11:53 pm

I'm currently running version 1.3.10, which presumably is current. I am repeatedly finding myself at doors that I cannot pass through without the game just hanging forever on the loading screen. It's not actually *crashed*, because the load-screen animations keep progressing, but it never finishes loading. This happens most often when I'm trying to exit a building or dungeon and return to Skyrim.

In the past, I've had to use 'coc' console command to move myself somewhere else; fortunately, that usually works.

This time, though, it happened at a door where I'm trying to leave a dungeon and reach another area (though it *does* say 'Skyrim'). So even if 'coc' works here, I cannot proceed with the quest, which is an important one.

I haven't been seeing any of the other problems, such as CTDs, since the most recent update, but this hanging load problem is getting worse and worse as time goes on! I almost can't complete any dungeon anymore...

So, has anyone seen any fixes for this??

I am level 34 so far.

My system:
Windows 7 64bit
AMD Phenom X4 (quad core) CPU
8GB RAM
NVidia GTX 460, driver version 275.33 (I tried V285.62, but it was causing other problems with my computer)

//********************************************************
After reading another post about this issue, I tried the following:
> type PCB in console before opening the door; didn't work
> type PCB in console while load is hung (though I can't see the console); didn't work
> try ctrl-alt-delete to get back to desktop, then switch back to the program; didn't work.

I've left it sitting for up to 20 minutes, and it never finishes; it's not a slow load, its a hung load.

//*********************************************************
I can't even use cheat functions to get there.
I need to get to the stair at Dead Crone Rock where Drascua is (location code 240d8).

I tried 'coc 240d8' , got an infinite hang
tried 'player.moveto 240d8', got an infinite hang

tried 'coc whiterun', which successfully put me outside whiterun, then 'coc 240d8', got an infinite hang...

Interesting... I found a message on Nexus which said that this can be caused by [MapMenu] entries in Skyrim.ini

I *had* in fact added a MapMenu section, as suggested in the WorldMapInFull3D "mod".
I removed that section, and my game loads fine!! sigh...

Hi,
Try the new Nvidia driver. 290.53 Tweaked just for Skyrim. The installer even has Skyrim Screenshots.!

It is a Beta, but I have been using it since it came out (nice improvement). When you go to Nvidia site, look to bottom, the Beta drivers are there.

EDIT: @ Gorlash..love my Map...try this , from my INI just the map section.

I just wanted to drop by and observe that you could take this thread's title to any forum and be sure to get at least a couple resonses, no matter what the body of the topic actually was. I'll leave now, then.

Camaro: thanks for the notes; I'll try the beta driver... hopefully it won't cause sporadic computer lockups like 285.62 did...
I'll also try your MapMenu mod and see if I can still leave dungeons!

Worth the effort for the improvement in the Driver...

As to the Map edits, its a collection of tweaks found around the net.

Been thru 1000's of load doors and Hundreds of places. Think Beth didn't give this to us is you CAN use it as a cheat so to speak. you can Zoom in on an area and SEE things you wouldn't have seen before.
