Hangs on Launch, then Crashes

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:35 am

SkyRim was previously working on my machine. Now when I run it, it gives a black screen, spinning cursor, and crashes after a minute. I have a very high powered system: Windows 7 with all the updates, AMD Radeon HD 6800, 18 Gb RAM, tons of disk space. Nothing has changed except that I've updated my video drivers, applied the latest Win 7 updates and the latest SkyRim patches. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brian

I will have to point at your video card.....and say ...there must be 25 posts available to read where most are having issues with the drivers for AMD cards.

Try different drivers...by the way what drivers are you trying to use...i read 12.2 svcks...lol

I can laugh...i run Nvidia and someone there must play Skyrim...the "Skyrim edition" Nvidia drivers rock!!

Just want to jump in and add that I am having the same issue and I have Nvidia GeForce GTX 460. I'm not sure what to do because before the newest patch, I had no problem running Skyrim. Now, for some reason, it hangs on startup and pretty much sits there not loading. It appears to be non-responsive according to the task manager.

Can you try different saves....Sometimes outside saves give me a problem...I load a save I have in Breezehome...then open ESC menu and load another save....

I'm using driver version 8.930, dated 12/5/11. It's the latest driver according to Windows update. Where would I find a different driver? Also, my processor is i7-990X Extreme Edition, 3600 MHz.
