So basiclly my old white 360 got the red ring of death a couple of weeks ago so I bought a new 360 slim the other day to replace it, well imagine my suprise when I go to put my old hard drive on my new slim and it wont fit it! I mean seriously how cheap is it of Microsoft to make the new systems to where you cant put the old hard drives on them when they could have just as easily fixed it to where you could? Its not like me and who knows how many other people haven't shelled out thousands of dollars each to use their products and we get screwed over like this. But all that aside I've looked up a few videos on youtube where people have taken the old hard drives apart and actually used them on the slim and they all claim it works, what im wondering from you guys is 1: have any of you done this and does it work for you without any problem, and 2: all the videos online are of a 250 GB hard drive but mines just a 60, so do yall think that would make any difference?

You don’t need to put your old hard drive on, just recover your gamer tag to that 360. Then you can download all of you DLC back for free. I am afraid your saved games are all but lost since your 360 died

(Usually you would use a transfer cable or USB)

Just don’t do it, I got the slim too and had to loose all my saved games but I would not risk loosing your warranty and busting you Xbox. I can give you some websites on proper ways to get your new 360 and DLC back the right way way.

The slim is acually better in many way's have faith in it. Only down side is no hard drive swap, but they did that for good reasons.

Alright cool man thanks but let me ask you this WHY would it not work? And also since im not exactly a tech guru will the 4GB memory unit that came with the slim be enough to download dlc's and extra content or should I just take it back and shell out the extra hundred dollars and get the one with the hard drive buit in? Also if I was just going to take it back anyway would it actually hurt anything to give tranplanting my old hard drive onto the slim?

I asked myself if I should do the same thing when I got my slim (But I chose not to do this) Hope this helps a bit sound like swaping hard drive is not so bad after all.

Hard drive install issue: The disadvantage of this solution is that the slot for the hard drive on the slim is designed for the hard drive to be in the proprietary Microsoft enclosure, so the drive isn’t properly secured physically.

Issue: Tamper with system and its will be 80-150$ for repair if 360 breaks.

Issue: Tranporting 360 slim with old hard drive results in severe damage.

Issue: Only usefull If you really want saved games or old hard drive cant hold the amount.

Bad: Microsoft may fine you major money if sent xbox in/ or ban your xbox from live and IP (Internet) Acess to xbox live, if found out.

Bad: 4G cannot handle very much DLC.

Alright thanks for the advice man, pretty helpful. Honesly I might give it a shot because if I dont im just gonna have to take it back and pay the extra money for one with a hard drive anyway and I dont think it would damage the system anyway. Still might be be better choice though, that way I dont have to worry about anything happening down the road if I had to move it like you said, decisions decisions.

save ur old hard drive take it to a friends house and install it on his old xbox, use a flash drive to remove the info from old hard drive...put flash drive into new xboxs' USB port and save it to the 4 gig HD surely you didnt fill the 60 gig up?

Just get a transfer cable and transfer everything from your old HD to the new slim version HD. Transfer cables are around 20 dollars I think.
