hardcoe eating

Post » Mon Apr 04, 2011 6:58 pm

how often r we going 2 eat in a game day, cos i don't want 2 play for an hour and then get 'you are starting to feel hungry'
and the same goes for water, i don't think we should eat more than 2 times a day

If NV uses the same timescale as fallout3 (30:1), then playing for an hour will be more than a full day of in-game time, which means that you'll likely need to eat and drink a couple times, and sleep in that period.

The first thing I plan to do is adjust the timescale down to 15:1, so I can get a bit of gameplay in between naps and snacks.

Title fooled me, sounded like an eating contest ;)

But yeah. hardcoe is going to somewhat simulate real life, that is the need to drink and eat daily to maintain health. Since the days are really short in games, you will probably eat several times within that hour and drink even more since water is more important and... you're in a desert, it's even more important then.

thought the same thing, like an eating contest in a casino to see who can eat the most before they die of radiation sickness. a test of Endurance if you will.

what everyone else has said.

...I pause to reflect on hardcoe eating, and I envision Jason Statham, eyeing up a tasty chicken sandwhich like it's a bomb, or it just shot his best friend before angrily and furiously eating it.

On topic, once or twice a day wouldn't bug me. In the Chris Avellone interview that just hit the forum, he mentions how one dev died in 60 seconds in Hardcire Mode, but that may have been sped up. I'm really hoping it isn't like the original The Sims game where you had to pee or eat or sleep every three minutes.

J.E. Sawyer said on some other thread that they were testing it out, so it was an accelerated dehydration rate.

And I agree, twice in an in-game day is more than reasonable. I usually set the in-game time so the days don't go by so quickly, so it may be easier for me, but what the hell.

In both Oblivion and Fallout 3, I use a 1:1 timescale (except where I know that it causes bugs, in which case I switch it back to 30:1 to get through that part, then switch it back). Still, I don't see myself using hardcoe mode at all.

Yeah, it wouldn't take much play-testing to figure out when it becomes annoying.

Something tells me they'll tweak the time-scale a bit compared to FO3

This. They really should make it slower.

How do you change the timescale?

I don't think the devs would make it so you had to significantly interrupt playing time to eat/sleep/drink. If you had to eat every thirty minutes, drink every fifteen, and sleep every two hours, it wouldn't be much fun at all would it?

Use some common sense.

I'm pretty sure that's a PC exclusvie ordeal that's done with all the command mumbo jumbo I don't understand cuz the only games I've ever played on a PC were Free Cell and Family Feud on Facebook.

im just guessing here but i think if you have a canteen you wont need to stop and drink every little while it will do it automatically as long as you keep it full and food would be easy to deal with cause all you have to do is keep 10lbs of food on you and go to your pipboy which you will do every couple of minutes anyway. sleep will be the tough one though i know i never slept in FO3 i only used stimpacks to heal my limbs even when a bed was right in front of me

Real day time would be better IMVHO.
1 minute = 60 seconds.
3 meals a day to be more efficient.

Then either our walk speed is going to have to be excruciatingly slow to make up the MPH on foot going across the Mojave, or we're going to be able to do a LOT in the span of an in-game hour.
