hardcoe mode ( eat, sleep, drink...)

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:16 am

I din't find a topic or a thread ( well I looked with key words but did'nt find it ) that it talks about a kind of hardcoe mode. I mean, I don't talk about difficulty level, I mean, a mode that your character has to sleep, to drink, to eat...

Like a kind of survival mode. There is one in Fallout New Vegas and it's a Bethesda games.

It would be very funny to play a survival...well, just to spice up the game a bit. To make things a little bit more usefull food and drink.

Yeah I know, on PC with the mod....

And console players, we are not...players ???

I'm sure that Beth could take that kind of stuff...and make it works on console platforms

P.S. To have it on PC, 360 and PS3.

I enjoyed it in F:NV, but it wasn't really that much of a challenge. Just can't carry insane amounts of ammo, kept water (could find a rediculus amount of water in a post-apocalyptic desert) and gecko steak on you, left followers in Goodsprings and still kept the perks they give you. If you got the pre-order (I think) you had a canteen to solve the hydration issue, and the Dead Money DLC could glitch your sleep so you wouldn't need any.

i also like hardcoe mode for NV was fun and added more realism, tho skyrims not a nuclear waste land so it might be a little to easy to find food water ect, tho im sure they could make it hard if they wanted to, also beth wouldent get sued if they call it something like realism mode change it up a bit from NV

i played hardcoe in nv and, though, it wasn't much i still ended up turning it back on when i gave it a shot without it.

i like the idea of a hardcoe mode, but, it needs to have A LOT MORE aspects than just sleep and eat and weight. that's bare minimum in my book.

The heal over time aspect of NV HC would change the instantaneous potion guzzle. I think potions are too easy, just like slamming stimpaks.
Also, the need for food, water and sleep give a reason for inns, cooking and hunting. When you chug magica potions it could make you hungry, stamina/ sleepy or health/dehydrated. These were little things in NV HC but it added to the experience.
I would love to see arrows have weight too.

I for one liked NV's hardcoe mode. It's name was ultimately a bit misleading, but the hunger, thirst and sleep dynamics still added some extra depth to the game that I really appreciated, and I miss having to maintain my character that way in Skyrim.

Well, that depends. If you used hardcoe mode while playing dead is dead on Very Hard difficulty, it made things significantly more challenging. I would enjoy Skyrim's gameplay a lot more if there was a hardcoe mode for that reason.

The "hardcoe" mode of Fallout: New Vegas was brilliant. I loved it. My only complaint was you didn't have to drink enough. In the desert, you can drink a gallon in 2-3 hours. I thought the water need wasn't big enough, and de-buffs from hunger and sleeplessness weren't bad enough. For me anyway.

I wish Skyrim had this feature too!

I just looked in the CK and i don't see any way to give arrows any weight. There is no input box for weight in the dialog window.

This kind of svcks, since a good hardcoe mode should add some weight to arrows ...

Agreed. I forgot to mention that. Ammunition should have weight (It did in Fallout 1 & 2 and New Vegas on hardcoe), along with needing water/food/sleep. Sounds like it may be too great a change in code for this game. Maybe ES VI.

On the Steam Workshop, I posted a list of some http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=17346 that work very well together.

i was thinking about what i would like to see in terms of a hardcoe mode i would like to see food, water, ammo weight sleep needs as well.

i also would like to see maybe the ability to have bedrolls you could take with you so you could setup a camp in the wild, you would have to build it yourself out of wood and straw and things like that

you would also have a wellness meter when setting camp where you had to chop firewood for a fire and hunt for food or maybe even bring in fishing into the game(you see fishing poles in the game, zelda ocarina of time had it  )but anyways thats something ive been thinking about.

you can easily do it your self. My hunter character (ironicly my main char) has a house in whiterun and everyday he goes out to hunt for deer, wolves, bear and stormcloak(he he :-) ) Then he eats the meat and sells the hide to buy ammo, its an easy life and really fun. You can easily level up loads and occasanolly he goes to a new city to sell and buy new stuff. He just learned he could use magic and is preparing to either go through dawnstar to winterhold (which is swarming with stormcloaks) or from windhelm which has less soldiers but has a frozen tundra wasteland to venture through!
So its not that hard but very fun, every one should have at least one char that has an easy life.

I currently play hardcoe mode.... doesn't require a mod. Just add the following to your game.

1. Dead is Dead. You can't get more hardcoe than that.
2. Don't use 'healing' potions in battle, only when not in combat. You can however use the regeneration health potions in combat since they heal over time.
3. Eat every day... and not just an apple. I normally eat a cooked meat, throw in some veggies and a bottle of wine. Sadly no water... but there is a lot more water here than in NV(and it is not radioactive) so I just imagine getting water anytime.
4. Sleep at least 5-6 hours a day.
5. Don't jump in the freezing water without first taking a resist frost potion.

And some people have taken it even further...
6. If wearing heavy armor you automatically sink and can't swim. So if you jump in water in heavy armor swim straight to the bottom. Of course you could use a waterbreathing potion and walk(swim along the bottom) back to the surface.

hardcoe mode in New Vegas was more tedious than challenging. Essentials of Morrowind and or Oblivion were two epic mods that had this feature long before New Vegas came out. I am sure that this mod will be brought into this game, especially since a number of things that they had to mod in like Cooking and Crafting are already in this game.

However, while it would not bother me if this was an option in the game, it is not one I would ever pick.

I like the fact arrows dont have weight, they had weight in oblivion and it was a pain in the [censored] because you needed over hundred which also made you go over the weight more easily

I think I'd dig it if they had eating animations... but because you just click on a food or drink item and it just disappears it doesn't add any realism in my opinion. So, for role-playing sake, I have been playing hard-core mode style, just without an official in-game setting. For example, when I enter a town, I'll do my bartering, then I'll stop at the pub to get some food and drink and listen to the bards play for a while even if I have a home there. If I have a home and a wife, I'll just head home, have her cook me a meal and sit down and eat it with some mead. I'll carry some apples and other non-perishables with me when I journey and eat/drink them at appropriate times of the day.

It sounds silly, but it's what I do for role-play.

Loved FO: NV hardcoe mode and not for the challenge but for the immersion, add a layer of realism to the game that I personally enjoy.

your post is exactly why i want a hardcoe-mode BUILT INTO THE ACTUAL GAMEPLAY. not in my mind or with my creativity.

i want FUNCTIONAL in-game implementation.

i don't want to think about the hardcoe-type toggles. i want it to be actual substance withing the game.

using our minds is not the same as forced gameplay mechanics.

we can always use our minds and imagination and develop our own governing rules. THAT has nothing to do with a system being added to the actual gameplay.

again, what you like and an OPTIONAL hardcoe toggle can co-exist.
