hardcoe Mode Freezing

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:24 am

Has this happened to anyone? I'm not talking about the game freezing, just the H2O/FOD/SLP meters stop working.

After drinking an Atomic Cocktail one time, the sleep deprivation meter stopped working (the arrow was all the way to the left and no zero or number displayed). Simply sleeping in a bed for an hour fixed the problem immediately. However just recently, all the gauges stopped working. They will change if I sleep or rest or eat food/water, but that's it. They don't work during Real Time playing. I've loaded a backup save file and they work fine in it but when I go back to my original save the problem is still there. So some bug must have happened in that play through and got saved on the file. I've tried a number of things that I'd hope would make those meters resume normally but, alas, nothing has been successful.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I did have the sleep meter stopping to increment after assuming an Atomic Cocktail too,
and I solved it just the same way as you did.

I'm on HC too (PS3, patch 1.02) and recently decided to just walk normally from
place to place, avoiding fast travel as much as possible.

After a while I noticed that the meters were only very slowly incrementing...
In other words, if I needed to eat and drink regularly (say every one half hour of real time)
when avoiding fast travel I'd need to only drink every once in a very looong time (say about
once every 2-3 hours of real time). What it made me notice this was that almost a whole game-day
had passed by (left BoS safehouse at dawn, reached Primm well past midnight)
without any H2O indication whatsoever appearing on HUD.

Resuming to occasional fast traveling made the meters increment at a some
more sensible rate but I still have the impression that the meters are incrementing
at a lesser rate than the one they were incrementing before the 'no fast travel' decision.
I mean, I've been playing for more than 300h now, and I sort of developed a 'feel' for
how much water/food I needed to carry on me/companions during my trips.
At the moment, I'm packing 1/3 of resources I used to pack... And my
character reached LVL30 long ago, so it cannot be that my survival skill have much
changed ;)

After some thorough playthrough, I realize that I can load any of my older save files and the meters work fine as intended. I have noticed a peculiar pattern, however, with the save files with about 320 hours play time, that no matter what I do or eat or what direction I walk in or if I fast travel or whatever different variations of decisions and actions I make - all of the meters cease to work at almost percisely the 322 hr 30 min mark.

Currently I'm actually playing on further with this character to finish the storyline with the Legion (as it's the one I least like and would want to do it with a serious character) and the whole time I've been playing on the meters have not restarted working. Sure, when I rest or fast travel more figures get added to the meters but they still stay frozen until I eat or rest/fast travel again. It really bugs me because I like the realism of the survival mode and have grown accustom to it. I do everything in the game in real time and have only recently been using fast travel because I don't care as much about this character anymore because of this bug.

Since nothing else I've done has made any difference, I can only deduce that somehow this bug is clock triggered. So I'm thinking my next course of action will be to recreate my character and start fresh and brand new again. Sometimes it's a good feeling to start things over (and I have been missing the survival aspect of starting the game at the beginning with practically nothing at all), and this time I can write some wrongs I made with my character as well as anticipate certain bugs or glitches that've messed a few things up for me.

In fact, I looking forward to it. Tabula Rasa mein freund :)

If your sure that it happens after that amount of time playing I'd message Gstaff with the details or a link to this thread so they can pass it on to the patch crew. just in case they overlook the thread. it sounds to me like something the patch team can fix.

Ohh... Yes! Now that you highlight that ~322h figure, I see how it kind of matches when I started noticing that
my survival needs were less and less necessary. Indeed, this means we've hit some kind of limit... And a nasty bug.
I'm almost over with my (1st) playthrough, I'm just doing some finishing touches and I plan to restart anew anyway,
thus albeit I'm a bit disappointed to have lost an aspect of the game I really liked, I'll be carrying through to the
gran finale before ditching it.

Cheers!

EDIT: Ahem... It seems we're not the only ones having noticed this. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1175585-hardcoe-not-working/page__view__findpost__p__17366739

Ya, I started over. It's kind of really fun, being able to rough it a bit again (one aspect I loved about Dead Money was conquering the survival aspect). Plus, I'm confident I could get to where I was with the other character in half the time. Not because I'm going to rush through it (I love being able to take my time) but because I already know what to do for the majority. Also, this time I'm not going to collect as much junk :D lol, so mebbe the game will run a little better without a hundred thousand items/objects all over the place for it to remember.

As I ascend through my character's story I can also include the expansions at my leisure throughout while I advance.

In my opinion, this is the worst bug by far as the others I went with the flow. But after 425+ and no help/fix via the 1.05 patch

hardcoe is no Longer hardcoe, not even HalfCore...

in the sense that it really helped with the feel of NV, but now it feels not stale but stagnante.

This bug happenned a while ago, probably around that 320hr mark and has svcked since.

Someone mentioned gettings in touch via email to someone that might be able to bring this to the attention of someone who could do something about this ugly simulation changing bug,...anyone know it?

I'm of the school of sticking with the character build from the first go around and keep trugging through, never plan on starting the simulation over again....same way as FO3.

And today I read about a particular CEO "Wishing" it wasn't bug free? He was better off keeping silent as that comment shows to me how very out of touch coorperate is and prob will be in the future....DRS

There would have to be enough people using hardcoe mode who experience this glitch for the devs to put much priority or interest in fixing it, I'm afraid.

Starting the game over as a new by similar character has been a blast, so far! I'm confident I'll be do everything in the order I wish whilst taking as much time as I want to go about and do whatever I want. One thing I figure is that a good deal of the time I spent in learning things in the game or testing out things and the such. Since the majority of everything function- and equipment-wise I know pretty well, I won't take up time to learn the things that I already know. So, hopefully, I'll be able to complete the game just before or at the 320 hr mark. At that point, won't matter if the mode stops working. My only concern in meeting such a deadline is the expansions, however, fortunately they're all being released this summer! :celebration:

Anyway, thanx for posting here KnifeAngel. Nice to see I'm not the only who suffered from that bug. I need hardcoe mode, it completes the Fallout experience for me. With all the wonderful food and drink options, without hardcoe they really seem kind of pointless... but than again, so does being a super-being immortal that doesn't require sustanence to live....
