Hardin vs McNamara

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 4:51 pm

I was recently thinking about the Bos in the Mojave and got to wondering who would be the better leader for the mojave chapter.

I personally believe McNamara mostly due to him worrying about more than just the war and seizing tactical dominance (The best example is the air filtration system and how he wants you to repair it, as too Hardin he has you attack the Vann grafs)

Im not at all saying Hardin is a bad leader I just strongly believe his position of being head of security is perfect for him as it is.

Neither. One is too spineless to defy the Codex and attempt to make actual good even though he sees the writing on the wall, the other is a dogmatic zealot who blindly adheres to the same self-destructive Codex.

Elijah didn't go back and pick his chapter up.

For me, it would be cool if the Brotherhood become a bunch of Cyborgs and Robots..........speaking of Brotherhood of STEEL

Actually the ending doesn't mention the Mojave chapter of the BoS at all.
When I got that ending I simply played it that Elijah assumed control of Hidden valley once more but commanded it from the Sierra Madre alongside my courier.

Of course you can interpret the ending as you please, it is an RPG afterall ;)

Eh...if I really had to choose... Hardin, they're both close minded idiots, but at least Hardin is re-establishing outside contact and real world training.

Neither, the Brotherhood is dead under both of them.

McNamara is too cautious and reactionary; he'd have the Brotherhood sit in the bunker until it collapses around their heads. He's also completely against any kind of new tech research, as evidenced by I Could Make You Care.

Hardin is too aggressive, and will get the Brotherhood wiped out by throwing them into combat with foes beyond their capability to master. That's not the way to go either.

Honestly? Veronica should be Head Elder. :P The Brotherhood's actually got a chance to thrive under her, as she's the only one offering an agenda which will permit the West Coast BoS to grow and gain popular support, like their far more successful Eastern brethren.

I agree with everything you said except for this part..

That's not accurate because the Scribes are thinking of ways to combine the energies of Lasers and Plasma into one weapon. Go talk them and they will mention it.

Right, I should have specified, he's against useful new tech research. The BoS doesn't need better weapons, it needs to approach the problem of technology from a new direction (see: Project Purity) and apply its technical expertise to gain itself support and allies. That's the only way it will be able to continue its mission of technical preservation.

If I'm enemies with the NCR, I install Hardin. If I am allies with the NCR, I install McNamara.

Most of the time it's Hardin.

Another scribe becoming an elder may be unwelcome.

They're both bad leaders, but if I had to choose one it would be McNamara because at least he is willing to admit that he is defeated and negotiate with the NCR instead of being destroyed.

I hope to see some interaction between the East and West coast Brotherhood chapters in Fallout 4.

Out of the two Elders, though, at least Hardin will have them die fighting. They are Knights, after all.

I wanted to be able to get the BoS to the bargaining table and set them up to essentially be guards for the Followers of The Apocalypse. They would basically continue doing what they've been doing, while the Followers safely researched medicine and farming tech.

They would be perfect; it's already like they're two halves of the same thing. The Brotherhood would be the sword and shield and the Followers would be the plough and stethoscope. Neither side would change, but they would benefit from eachother in volumes.

Hardin, though I don't care for either of them.

They should make Scribe Ibsen the elder.

I can t say too many things *could* happen with the bos during the game to give an educated answer.

Owen Lyons is the best bos elder, because he did break the codex, and will not just survive, they will thrive.

The BoS has been a techno-religious organization ever since FO1, they may not have had quite as strong a "knights" theme as FO3 but it was absolutely there.

this is an interesting thread

Are you asking which leader I feel best suits the Courier's and the Mojave's needs? McNamara if only because of his low-intensity approach to the wasteland, that is, he does not recruit you to kill off an energy weapons merchant. While both leaders seek a greater presence for the BoS in the Mojave Wasteland and the continuing application of traditional BoS ideals, the two approaches are dramatically different. For the sake of the Mojave, McNamara is the lesser of two idiots.

are you asking which leader I feel is best for the BoS? Neither as I feel the BoS is an outdated, foolhardy, selfish organization. They are the hoarders of knowledge and technology that would lift many out of poverty and death and be a tremendous boon to relieving the chaos and harshness of the wastes. No, I cannot respect those who have the means to do much but make the choice to do nothing.

True, on the other hand there is no mention of them being destroyed is there?
So seeing as they live in a subterranean bunker the option to RP with them is still there, is it not?
