Has anybody ever had a dragon spawn in markarth?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:41 pm

I've had dragons inside or near every city except for Markarth. I'm just curious, who here has had one spawn in or near it?

I have never had a dragon spawn inside a city, but I have had one come over the wall after me and I fought two in a city once but they also cam from over a wall.

Maybe thats what the Jarl was hinting at when he said Markarth is at an advantage against dragon attack.

Their city is built into the mountain and is of dwemer build, mostly stone. Stone doesn't burn very well.

There isn't any because they know it'd be pointless. No fun swooping in to get your kill on...when all the denizens live inside granite buildings. Fire or frost really can't do [censored] to that. :/

On the Southern Road towards Falkreath and Whiterun, I have had two separate instances of Dragons spawning. Both have been near to the Hunter's Rest Dibella Shrine near the Bridges. Not much clear space to land on, so you have to go bush a bit to find the carcass.

Uh-huh. This is a city that was built by the Dwemer. You know, an extinct race that left behind cities and technology that has persisted for thousands of years. If nature has a hard time wiping them out, a dragon ain't gonna do [censored].

You can't tell me if an elder dragon came full speed at a stone wall it wouldn't crumble.

how do people play this game for 400 hours?

I literally have about 40 hours logged into Skyrim, and I play it a decent amount (level 35, two different characters, the former which I stopped half-way through as I realized I was playing an Imperial).

in Morrowind I'd wager it's somewhere around 30 to 40 as well (and I've beaten the MQ, Tribunal and Bloodmoon, mind you) and probably around 20-30 in Oblivion (beaten every guild quest, most of the Daedric shrine quests, and the MQ).

I've actually had a dragon spawn 3 separate times in Markarth. It makes for a very interesting fight. Whenever I used Dragonrend it would land in front of Cidna mine, where the guards would about pummel it to death. Before that though, it's a pretty sweet venue for a dragon to show up.

I did have a dead dragon drop from the sky once in Markarth, over to the left by the entrance, as I kept coming and going from the city he would inch little by little to the water until I came back once and he was in the water, he stayed there for a ling while too. Then one day I cane back he was halfway in the water and he was wrapped around a pole, then I left and canme back again and the dragon was gone.

Well I pause the game quite a bit an leave it on. So I wonder if that adds up. If it does I probably only have 250-300.

I play a little during the week, but lots during the weekends

yeah, but I mean, how do people get even that amount of time from a videogame?

one of the most played games ever for me (Red Dead Redemption) only has around 60 to 70 hours logged in (majority being the multiplayer, which I played nonstop). I don't think I've ever logged a 100+ hours into a single videogame, no matter how extensively I've played it.

but yeah, maybe people are counting the hours they just leave the game on? some guy even claimed he had ONE THOUSAND HOURS plugged into Skyrim. and I'm wondering "WTF? how did he not begin having health problems?".

Not inside the city. Near Markarth that's a different story.

This is the game I've spent my most playtime on ever. I'm burnt out now though. Just playing around with some mods and the kit on PC and waiting for DLC...I've been trying to finish FNV and all the DLCS

Four hundred hours is nothing compared to the time I logged into Morrowind and Oblivion.
Morrowind was about a thousand and five hundred hours.
Oblivion was about one thousand five hundred to two thousand hours somewhere between there.
I play soong because I develop stories that tie my characters together with eachother and the world so it stays interesting. That is how I get so much bang for my buck with this game.

yeah, but I'm not even arguing like "oh you must have no life to play a videogame that much", I'm just wondering how it's possible?

like, I did almost everything you can do in Oblivion and only have, like I said, around 30 to 40 hours in that game. where does all this additional time come from? even with trial and error in mind, that would only add around maybe 5-6 hours to your total playtime.

According to Steam, I have 511 hours of Skyrim in, and I haven't played it since mid-March. Some of that is having the game paused while getting a snack or something, but most of it is gameplay. It's replayability. And the fact that you can go pretty much anywhere. I played Dragon Age Origins, for instance, but you're limited in the areas you can explore, and you can't really ignore the quests. With ES, it's open world, so I just go exploring. And I don't feel the need to do everything with a single character. I had one char who was a Thief/DB member, another that was a warrior & did Companions, another that was a mage and did the College quests, etc. Vastly different playing experiences each time, because the characters and how they interacted with the world was so different.

If you're just talking about time, well, a couple hours after work during the week, and then lots of time on the weekends. It adds up.

Edit: Yes, I've seen at least one dragon in Markarth that I can remember.

Its just like I said I play several characters and I play them all differently I collect items and money and freely explore, with some characters I do not even do any quest at all, except you have to in Skyrim to get a house to store your goods, that is something I do not like you should be able to buy your property. Then I just create stories with my people within the lore.

In Skyrim I have four hundred hours now, I've put a lot of time in one other game the Sims but nowhere near as much as an ES game. When I get a PC I will be able to open up even more playing time with mods.

Sounds like I'm the only person to have had a dragon spawn inside Markath

Twice

Was a very difficult battle, since there's so much structure for the dragon to land on and you have a very restrictive line of sight that means the dragon can land behind a structure and you can't see it without a lap of the city. On the other hand, there's so much cover that even city guards survive long enough to make a difference.

Ended up having to scale to the highest point in the city and just whittling it down with arrows and fireballs from my antronach summon.

If the stone used is anything like granite, which I would imagine the Dwemer would prefer to use, then no it wouldn't. Even if the stone is just the regular kind, there's little chance the dragon would still be alive or even conscious.
