So I Have 300 Dragon Souls...

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:55 am

I don't actually. But at some point I will, through stopping the (seemingly) incessant dragon attacks on Dawnstar and the random dragon encounters throughout the world. My point is - what in the world is the POINT of having infinite dragons spawning, if the excess dragon souls do nothing for you? It seems they could easily become a "consumable" without making the game too "easy" or silly.
A couple of thoughts of mine for the extra souls:

1) Use souls to restore health, magicka, stamina. Say, one soul restores one of the three to max. Three restores all three, you get the picture. Make this a greater power, so it can only be done once a day. Maybe even less often.

2) Use souls to gain levels. Now now, before you crazy - hear me out. Some prerequisites for using dragon souls to level up:
  • Have completed the main story-line.
  • Be at least level 50.
  • Cost 100+ souls.
Some preemptive rebuttals:

Yes I know there is an aspect of this that means your character is "indestructible"....but is it already not? I mean I play on Master difficulty and still 1-2 shot most enemies.

Levels at 50+ are less of an experience of leveling up, and more a "jesus christ alteration, LEVEL UP ALREADY - so I can put my perk into something that has nothing to do with alteration >.>" experience. Because of that, I feel like 2 is pretty justified, especially noting its other requirements.

On PC there are mods that let you trade an amount of souls for an additional perk without the need for leveling. This would probably be a good feature to add to the game through a patch or DLC in the future.

Hrmm...Not sure how I feel about that. I feel like I would want the added Magicka/Stam/Health choice that comes with levelling.

Maybe once all the DLC is done they can simply have you stop gaining souls once all shouts are mastered.

What would be the point of dragons (aside from crafting, and let's be honest - you only need so many sets of dragon armor) then?

Whats the point of trolls? bandits? any of the monsters you fight. Your complaint is you have nothing to spend souls on once all shouts are mastered. But once all the DLC is done they'd know how many souls are needed and could simply cap it.

I agree, there needs to be another use for souls, but additional perks does not seem good to me.

Trolls = alchemy/ their regeneration makes them pretty good to train your lesser-used attacks on, bandits = Quests / space fillers for dungeons / pickpocket practice. Basically every *enemy* in the game (discounting foxes, deer, and the like, which are pretty much just aesthetic) has at least 2 purposes, be it food/alchemy, or some skill (like pickpocket) practice. Dragons apart from their souls have only their scales.

My complaint is not so much that I'm getting something that has no use, but that after a certain point in the game an entire enemy type has virtually no point.

The same can be said of bandits, Draugr and a other enemies.

Sure. But bandits, Draugr, and those other enemies are not the "game specific" enemy. Dragons have yet to exist in any of the console elder scrolls games. Bandits have been in both of the others, Draugr's were in BloodMoon expansion of Morrowind...and come on. Rats? Mudcrabs? These are DRAGONS....surely you could grab an eye, grind up some teeth, or scraqe something off and make some potions...

Aside from creating several other items that you can acquire for potions, etc., the only thing really worth adding to dragons would be another use for their souls.

I was thinking they could use dragon souls like grand soul gems, to enchant and recharge weapons.

Wouldn't it have been nice to Use Souls to enhance yourself? or get bonuses to augment your shouts

Yep, there's another good one.

Like I said, I don't actually have 300. But if I play this game anywhere near as long-term as I played Morrowind (which is looking likely), then at some point I'm going to be upwards of 500...easily.

This whole scenario would not exist if Dragons went away after the MQ was over.

this would be cool, but i feel like theyd have to be a level stronger than the grand souls. gaining perks would kinda kill the game, i mean, could you imagine a character with EVERY perk in the game? if we werent op before we certainly would be after that dlc...

I can see how you might want them to be stronger than Grand, but then you might distort the whole framework of enchanting. I wouldn't mind using a dragon soul as a grand soul gem.

Also, I don't want to just "grant perks." I would prefer to use a boatload of souls to gain a level, or even to simply level up SKILLS in such a way that you would gain a level. And the cost could increase each time you use souls to do it. I wouldn't want to be able to grant more perks than were intended, and I wouldn't want to be able to reach a level that wasn't intended.
