I have been hornswaggled...

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:04 pm

My game has gotten to the point where all of my 10+ different saves, when loaded are fine until I hit a loading screen, then my game freezes. I have 3 other friends with the game that have also experienced major game breaking errors. One has all of his saves say "Loading Addon Content, Save Not Found, Device not found" anothers game freezes up at the main menu and that last one has him stuck in vault 22 inside a plant.... when paying $60 for a game, all the kinks should have been worked out before the release date.

/RANT
Bethesda...you seriously screwed the pooch handing this one to Obsidian and not overseeing the development and testing. I paid $60 for a game that I can't play until you release the patch to fix all this BS. You'd think that being one of the top rated highest selling RPG manufactures in the gaming world you would be more careful not to release stuff this poorly manufactured. I feel like I just bought a pair of fake Nike shoes from some little slave laborer in Korea and on my first jump shot the bottom blew out and I landed wrong so not I have to have hip surgery and walk with a limp...bastards., but on a serious note I'm tired of being stuck inside the stupid Dinosaur store in Novac....every time I hit the door on my main save....boom frozen.
/RANT

Your top priority should be releasing a patch that fixes all these reported glitches, until then I can't recommend this game to anyone. Your money is better spent on nothing Bethesda has to sell....go buy Rockband 3 or something.

I guess I could look at it this way....I was just playing the demo of F:NV ...and the actual release date is whenever this patch comes out.

I played Fallout 3 quite a bit actually, but I never had any "game breakers." I only know 1 person out of everyone on my friends list to have fallout that had it glitch so bad it was unplayable and the next to last patch fixed that for him on F3. I hope they fix it, because F:NV is a really fun game that I want to spend a lot more time on, but I can't because it's broken.

Either I'm very lucky or some people are just very unlucky.
Sure the game has the gremlin to freeze in a loading screen every once in a while but it's not so often that the game is unplayable.
I feel sadness that a lot of people have these kind of bugs but at the same time I feel confusion as I never have had it as bad as them.
Maybe it isn't the game that the problem lies at, maybe it's your computer/console that is old and dated or maybe you've mistreated it and no longer can play a game like this.
And if the problem doesn't lie with the actual game but maybe the manufacturing company creating faulty discs then it's not Obsidians fault.
I read some days ago that one guy bought a disc which had a fingerprint inside the disc. Not outside but actually inside.
That would not be Obsidians fault but rather the factory which produced the discs.

So I dunno.
I don't think ALL the problems lay with Obsidian since so many of us can play the game with little to no problems.
Cause if it did then wouldn't we all have these problems?

Your rant shows a lot of ignorance of facts. First, Bethesda oversaw Obsidian every step of the way in the development process. Second, slavery in Korea ended in 1897 so those must be some super old Nike's to begin with and South Korea is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world (North Korea is essentially hell on earth in terms of education standards, health, etc.). Third, the game has already been released for coming on 2 whole weeks, seems a little late to be suggesting to people that they change the release date in their minds to the patch. Fourth, the game has already been patched a couple of times.
I could go on but I see no reason to bother.

I have been playing this game for close to 50 hours now. One lock up at Nellis, one CTD out near Vault 22. None of them have repeated. No game breaking issues, a few glitches that are to be expected in a sand box game with 10 quests going on at once. Nothing an earlier save reload did not fix.

I wonder if most of these Save related problems, outside of the Steam Cloud which has been disabled is due to the Autosave system. As we know, it corrupts saves after a while. I don't use Autosaves and have never had a corrupted save that I could not recover from.

I haven't actually encountered any serious game bugs. None that would cause the game to be un-playable anyway.

I have the autosave feature turned on, but I keep 10+ saves at any time during the game to make sure I have multiples to load if it accidentally saves when I didn't want it to, and all of them have these same problems. Anytime I hit a loading screen my xbox locks up.

It's not my xbox either.. i have it in pristine condition, never dropped it, ect...and i've tried my game on 2 friends consoles mine being the older elite model one of theirs being the original white arcade model and one being the new slim 360 and it has the same problems on their consoles as well.

Yeah I use the auto-save for a couple of hours then I delete it and start a new for a couple of hours and then delete that one.
Try to keep it all on two main saves but I also delete them and start a new save file.
I think that oughta do it to avoid save file corruption at least.

First, I seem to remember reading where Bethesda let Obsidian oversee 70% of the project unsupersived. Second, child Laborers....not slaves. And yes they are still busting child labor shops in Korea on a yearly basis. Do you watch the news? Third, the whole point is that when i'm paying $60 for a game it should be free of game breaking glitches from day 1. 4th, I am constantly finding new forums on people still having game breaking problems on the PC and Xbox 360 ....they should have put all their efforts into the first patch to fix all of this.. I could go on but I see no reason to bother.

Have you checked out the different fixes here on the boards yet? I've got some bugs that come and go (pip-boy issues, etc, but none gamebreaking) but I haven't had any crashes yet. I'm no programmer or even computer-literate (I play on the 360), but it seems like the game has too much going on & you have to baby it a little. I clear my cache now & then, don't have multiple saves, turned off auto-save, turned off cinematics and subtitles and I take my time when I know a loading screen is coming (like pausing for a second at doors). Also, I carry as little gear as possible.
So far, so good. Oh, yeah -- don't go to that place near Novac where the ghouls are. (or has that been fixed now?)

Some of the things in Fallout 3 have never been encountered in NV and I'm glad, does anyone remember the Fallout 3 glitch where a giant black shadow shaped like a spider made of elastic ping around and cause damage and move the environment around.

yeah I think Im with you on this one I dont know how something this flawed got by quality assureance without being detected I just cant believe that they had no idea that they had no idea it was this messed up I think its far more likely that they couldent make thier deadline and really didnt care thinking they could pass it off to the next guy

On a side note I think its funny how all these guys come out of the wood work to bust the chops of guys who are complaining about being sold a basically broken product .These guys are basically argueing that its ok to rip off thier customers and we should just svck it up .I dont know maybe they own stock in the company or something .As far as a patch goes I have heard bunch of different things on the subject some people say a patch is coming soon for ps3 and 360 , others that its already been patched { if so sadly nothing seems to be fixed}. In any case I dont think its unreasonable to expect that when I buy a game it actualy functions Im sure Im not the only one

Well, I don't baby it all THAT much during gameplay ( I'm laughing at the idea of a timid character, though). I go for epic, too. I just try to take it easy on the processor and perform general maintenance.
When actually playing, it seems like the biggest thing is to just not rush loading screens (I had the same problem with Oblivion & Fallout 3, so I think it might be a problem with the engine).
Hell, though -- you might just have one of THOSE bugs. I feel your pain. Good luck.

Have you ever loaded an Autosave? If you did, you may have brought the corruption into the other saves.

Also, if the Autosave is corrupted, then it can freeze on the load screens as it is trying to overwrite this save file.

I gotta say I agree here. There are lucky people who haven't had any problems but there are an awful lot of others who can't play the game. From what I've read a good number of the bugs never came up during testing; the devs seemed pretty confident in their game. So what went wrong?
Is this something we players of large, complex RPGs are going to have to live with? Is it even possible to fully test a game with millions of possible outcomes?
I don't know.
But, like I said in another post, while none of my bugs have been game breakers, they are all annoying. I can't access my Pipboy if I have a weapon drawn, characters and animals sink into the ground, VATS misses frequently with 95% chance to hit and (this was plain carelessness) one of the containers in the Lucky 38 (by the workbench) resets every few days and eats your stuff.
I'm sure they are working on fixes -- there's pride and cash at stake. And the game is enthralling -- I love it. But I hope it gets fixed soon and this situation does not recur.

Dear tigershark,

First, you didn't even mention what system you're using, so I have to assume that it's the 360. Don't ask why, just take a few steps back and look at your writing.
Second, none of these "game breaking bugs" that you named are actually game breaking. There are different solutions for these exact problems on miscellaneous forums, this is one of them.
Third, you seem to know how Bethesda and Obsidian work out their relationship. I wonder where you get this ominous information.

On a side note I'd like to say that I've played the game for over 30 hours on my PC and still haven't encountered ONE, no not even ONE game destroying, game [censored], traumatic, disturbing, mental-health endangering bug.

I am on a 360, and I have tried everything from resetting my cache to starting a new game with autosave turned off. I still freeze every time I go through a door that has a loading screen. I've tried deleting my DLC and playing without it, redownloading it, installing to the harddrive, trying my 20gb HD off my old 360. Nothing has worked so far. If I have to go beyond that to fix a game that I should have been able to put in my system and play....it's truly not worth paying for.

I am on 360 and i guess i feel pretty lucky. I have only had 1 lockup and rebooting the 360 allowed me to pick right up from the last autosave. On another occasion i had been playing for about 5-6 hrs straight and i noticed the load times were getting rediculous. It was taking over 45-60 seconds for new areas to load. So i saved and restarted the 360 and load times were back to normal and i continued to play.

I have about 50hrs in autosaves on.

I feel lucky and am loving the game but definitly feel for those having issues.

I have been playing for a while, and so far the bugs have been minor framerate slowdowns and occasional clipping errors. No show-stopping bugs.
Mostly the game plays as intended. (I'm playing on PC)

The strangest bugs I've seen during my sessions is Cheyenne's floating eyes, and for a while the "loose 357 shells" ammo model was floating in the air next to the drawn 357 pistol in FPP mode.

*Well... while testing a mod I saw shotgun victims stretch and bounce wildly all over the casino... but that doesn't count because I've never seen it without running the mod in question.

A couple of patches have been released? Maybe for the PC, but the consoles have only gotten one patch so far. Outside of corrupted saves there are problems in the game that need to be addressed and are not passable with the excuse of "generally games like this". The whole not being able to shoot/reload/holster a single load weapon after leaving vats for damn near 10 seconds is NOT an acceptable glitch.
