I really dislike voice acting in games. It's - annoying, it pulls me out of MY immersion. People in a game like this one always have a "voice personality" in my own mind, and some stupid actor's idea of that personality is NEVER my idea of same. I prefer MY imagination to anything the devs and a bunch of idiot actors produce. Oh, yeah - in case you can't tell, I have zero use for tv and 99% of movies.
As far as running around like a deaf idiot? I don't have the problem - I hear everyone's voice in my own mind without any outside intervention. Just like I do when reading Tolkien, Lackey or whoever. I have the music in the background, which is just fine.
Totally agree. Well almost, some of the voices are cool. I always liked Wes Johnson. Voicing a game like Skyrim uses a lot of money, time and storage, so without it we'd be back to all of the dialogue options we had in Morrowind - and being able to keep everything anyone said to you in a journal. As a non-American, I am also sensitive to hearing American accents infiltrate Nirn, which is detrimental to immersion.
I can relate to characters not sounding the way you feel they should - same thing happens when you get engrossed in a good book, and then a film comes out of it with some actor who will forevermore get in your head as that character, even though it's not how you imagined the character. I hate that.
