I have a friend who is a huge CoD fan

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:08 pm

I told him about skyrim, he said it sounds cool so he would check it out on youtube

A week later he tells me he doesn't want it cause it doesn't have multiplayer

Many of my old clan/guild mates from games like Diablo 2, and guildwars often give me the same response. However these are the personalities which tend to bypass lore, and the immersion all together for the thrill of victory over opponents, competition, and status within the game. They often scoff of at the idea of playing a single player game.

I have converted a few people to TES games, but they are definitely the types who still suggest Skyrim multiplayer options on the forums.

Bethesda's response: "Not streamlined enough, now let's put in multiplayer and deathmatch!"

if you are entertained by MW3 and have extensively played past titles of the series then there is truely a market for the thing you already own.

I agree. Some people like competition sometimes and immersion others. Other people only deal with one or the other (I myself am a rare multiplayer). I think the kind of people who expect competitive action from games will find TES too slow. Can't say they're missing much if they're not the type.

I'm a HALO freak and have been for years. I switched to Skyrim to give something a little more thought provoking a try, and enjoy it immensely. I still FPS with a Bosmer with a bow, I just get to actually control who my char becomes, which is so much better than a normal FPS.... Plus Cortana never made me dinner, so there's that....

I'm a pretty big COD fan myself and I love Skyrim and its predecessors as well. You just have to approach each game with the right mindset. Although switching from one to another can certainly be interesting if for nothing else then the juxtaposition.

Playing with other people whilst alone in a cave is even worse.

Playing cricket and other gentlemens sports on the village green is, however, perfectly acceptable.

To each their own, but I am done with multiplayer gaming, in all of it's forms. It was a novelty at first but now it is incredibly tiresome, frustrating and downright boring. Plus you have to learn a new language without any [censored] vowels in it. Maybe it's just because I'm getting older, but I remember when gaming was about having fun - now it's about grinding until you are stronger than everyone else and then what? I suppose you go and find another game to play and annoy a whole new set of people. I have nothing against the people who enjoy that sort of thing, but it's definately not for me. I'm glad TES is sticking to being a single-player game. If/when it goes multiplayer I will be done with this as well.

A lot of sweeping generalizations about multiplayer on here. :D

I love competition, and thoroughly enjoy TBS games as pbem (play by email), TCP/IP with a friend playing through a NWN module, and occasionally an RTS game.

Can't stand mmo's though.

I like to adventure alone. Other people just talk talk talk. Also there is no brawl about the treasure.
If i think about Diablo 2 in that point.....

skyrim is a bug fest as it is, just imagine trying to add multiplayer, it would be unplayable.

yeah I hate those people; they don't seem to understand the true concept of a role playing game. For me online multiplayer games are sad, some people don't leave their houses because they want to become this super hero who is respected by other players (I remember seeing it on the news about this MMO player who basically never left his house because "he had all the friends he needed online" or something to that effect. Games should be something to do to fill in that time gap, to ease boredom and to have fun, not replace a social life.

With COD you are playing with friends and shooting and having fun. When you play a RPG with others it can quickly become very consuming.

I mainly play shooters, but i like to throw in some RPG/Adventure stuff. It's also nice to 'cool down' on stuff like Skyrim. Because holy hell is playing a shooter easily the most rage enducing thing i have ever done.

MMO player who basically never left his house because "he had all the friends he needed online"
That's pathetic.

then perhaps a new friend is in order.........

:P

anyways, only mentally mature people that have near god like wisdom can enjoy single player games to there fullest.

let me correct that.

skyrim HAS bugs cause its a massive open world 200+ quest game, and multiplayer in a TES will be the biggest BUG of all time.

TES + multiplayer OR MMO (god forbid) = instant planetary extermination
