Have I Heard That Voice Somewhere Before?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:32 pm

Hello.

I'm just wondering, is it just me, or has anyone else thought that the town guards (particularly in the city of Whitrun) sound quite
like that of the famous actor, turned president, (of california? Can't remember) Arnold Schwarzenegger?
The first time I spoke to a gaurd in Whiterun, and he said for e.g. "what is it Redguard?" (that's my character setup)
I immediately thought.... hey, it's Arnie! Cool!

I also compared it with this clip of him on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDxn0Xfqkgw
I think those town guards sound very much like him.
Can anyone confirm if it is actually him or not?

I've also played Oblivion, and the voice of actor, Sean Bean was used for a high king, or whoever the game chracter was. (can't remember)
So it's nice to have voice actors in games that you recognize.
Probably not completely surprising. But I do find it refreshing though.

What do other people out there think?

I'm pretty sure Arnold would be credited and actually the game would have been marketed in interviews as including voice work by Schwarzenegger.

It's not him, it's someone impersonating him. ;)

it isn't him. They probably pais some random Americans and told them to sound European, which in turn ends up as bad Arnie imitation.
But I got to say, I was in doubt the first time I heard them.

States (as California is) do not have Presidents; the head of the executive branch of a United States state government is termed "governor".

The only exception is for, coincidentally, California; the proper term in this case is "Governater".

Since I've only heard about 4 unique voices in the game, I can say yes, it sounds like him.

I miss Sean Bean.

He's a cool actor, but as a VA? Unimpressed. I found Martin Septim rather drab.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how Molag Bal and Phinis Gestor are the same voice actor.

No wonder Arnold isn't making movies anymore. He eventually got an arrow to the knee and had to apply for guard duty. I feel sorry for the poor bastard.

Christopher Plummer also voices a few roles - one of them (I think) the Greybeard you talk to in High Hrothgar. Forgot the character's anme.

Wait, WHAT?

It sure seems like it. Listen closely at the cadence of their speech patterns. I believe he does a few other characters as well.

I would have never thought. Quite some good VA work he did as Molag. Phinis though? Ehhh, the Breton accent is a bit more....high and might. Would work with some of the Justicars though.

Yeah, I think the only difference is that Molag's voice had some synthesizing/digital alterations done.

Arnold did need some work considering his political career has imploded and his movie career is washed up.

I don't think it's that hard to do a good Arnold impersonation. That's probably the easiest one I can think of for that matter.

That Ah-nold impersonation makes me cringe. Absolutely hate it. The obviousness of it is bad enough but that voice actor has such a flat, boring delivery. The other town guard voice is a lot better.

It's been mentioned before, but I've never thought of the guards as Arnald rippoffs.Just an Austrian (sort of) accent.

I miss Sean Bean.

Yeah, but he was never a Governator.
