I have a serious problem with potions...

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:40 pm

So within the 70 hours Ive played Ive accumulated all sorts of things. Most of which are useful, or I sell them. Buut I have a problem. I have all the resist, and damaging and healing and stamina and magic of blacksmiths and....well get the picture. I have over 120 potions in my inventory and another 200 at home. Someone help me, is there a potion hoarding support group anywhere? I dont know which ones to sell or keep.
Its like my megaelixer problem in FF games.
Are here any times where potions are actually useful besides when crafting? I find its notworth the time to go into my inventory and use one unless its healing.
WHat does everyone do with all your potions? Keep em? Sell them? Or do you just use them whether you need to or not??

Some people swear by potions and poisons... but the only ones that I use regularly are the potions for fortifying smithing/enchanting as well as healing and paralysis. I don't even keep the magicka or stamina potions... $$ in the bank.

Hahaha, I just went through my potion horde, sold around 7k worth (profit, not value). My rule of thumb, low effect potions or Fortify potions for skills I never use were garbage. I only held onto potions I know I may need in the field, and special potions are kept at home. Cut down my list considerably, as well as my weight.

I'm into alchemy, so I have quite a few, I mostly use healing, blade poisons, and resists. I sell ones intended for other classes some, and I just cut down the numbers, like selling 20 of my 30 resists. I'm just going to make more, anyway.

I sell ALL my potions except healing. Everything goes to an npc store. This is how I became the richest SOB in Skyrim.

A Hoarders Anonymous group would be nice. I hoard a anything I can't sell. (Vendors generally don't have enough gold). That being said, my Solitude home was bought an paid for all at once, just to offload gold I had.

Chest for normal weapons.
Chest for Enchanted weapons.
Chest for normal armor/clothing.
Chest for enchanted armor/clothing.

Chest for potions.
Chest for food.
Chest for misc crap, cups/bowls etc.
Chest for smithing and enchanting supplies.
Chest for books.
Chest for scrolls.
Chest for journals/notes etc.

Oh and
Chest for ebony/daedric/glass armors/weapons and other unique items.

Heh, potions can add up to a lot of weight so my mage only carries health, mana and destruction + dam potions. Maybe a few resists if needed, everything else is sold.

I need to stop collecting every reagent I see and limit myself to the ones that make the above potions because when I empty out my little satchel at the station, my encumberance goes up by about 700 points. :o

Ha ha, same doubts here. The mega healing potions are kind of essential and there are not as many as in Oblivion it seems. But health is probably the most usefull if you want to level up by using armor you are not proficient in, or weapons you have a low rating for. Occasionally poison is handy but the rest I sell.

My problem with potions is, I don't have a single character with enough hotkey room to put any potions in there. So to use a potion, I have to jump to inventory and search for the one I need, and it usually isn't worth the hassle. Beth needs to either give us more hotkeys, or give us an optional visible hotkey bar so we can at least SEE what's in there at all times.

Like maybe let us use the -_ and += keys to switch to alternate hotkey bars that we can fill with moar stuff! One for our normal weapons and spells, one for healing and buffing potions, one for long range attacks, one for alternate gear (Thieving gear versus crafting gear for example) and so on...

I have all kinds of enhancing and resisting potions thinking that if I drop them, a situation will arise where need them. I either forget to use them when the situation calls for it or just never need it. Same with powerful scrolls. I know I'll never use them for fear of wasting them but that won't stop me from carrying them just in case!

Once you make all the pieces of gear that you want, the only potions you need are:

Ultimate Health Potions
Ultimate Magicka Potions
Ultimate Stamina Potions

If you like poisons, the only effects I find to be particularly useful are damage health and paralyze.

I store potions and sell off the ones I don't ever use (when I remember to sell) I still end up with a ton of them that I forget I have most of the time. Quite often, other than heals, stamina, magicka, strength and blacksmith pots I tend to forget what I have most of the time.
